2023 SOCKEYE SPRINTS RECAP

On September 24th, 236 IST athletes traveled to Snohomish Aquatic Center. This competition was the first of our season and was a massive success!

All athletes came into this meet feeling excited, loose, and relaxed. The first meet of the season is always exciting and allows everyone to get off to an excellent start! For younger athletes in the Surge Groups, this was the first competition of their careers. These athletes were able to experience all the aspects of a swim meet for the first time including: meet warm-up, checking in with their coaches before and after every race, enjoying time with teammates while staying attentive to the meet, and learning how the event flowed.

For more experienced athletes in the Sockeye and Senior squads, this meet was an opportunity to re-establish the above meet habits and focus on solid swimming fundamentals. Since this was a sprint meet with exclusively shorter events, athletes focused on excellent starts, turns, and underwaters while incorporating skills learned in the first month of training.

This competition served as a tone-setter for the rest of the season. All Sockeyes put extra focus into establishing excellent swim meet habits. Our preparation for this competition reflected positive intention while creating steps for deliberate execution not only for this meet, but for the season as a whole.
