Who Is Eligible: Applicants for this scholarship must be low-income Black or African American males. J’ylan lost his life due to a drowning accident and was not able to fulfill his future dreams. We want to honor his memory by providing an opportunity for other youth to push the Forever 14 Dream of being great and striving to improve individual skills through learning to swim.
Purpose of the Forever 14 Dream Scholarship
Drowning is the second-leading cause of unintentional, injury-related death among children ages 1 to 14. A 2009 study found kids ages 1 to 4 who had taken swimming lessons showed a reduced risk of drowning by 88 percent.
