A History of Family Fun:

Larkey is a recreational swim team, dedicated to swimming fun, team spirit and personal improvement. The focus may not always be on winning, but everyone benefits from achieving their "personal best".

We are one of over 60 recreational teams throughout Contra Costa County whose swimmers range from 4 (requires coach's assessment) to 18 years old. As part of the Walnut Creek Swim Conference (WCSC) which is composed of 8 teams, we swim each of the other teams in our conference once during a season, plus several non-conference meets and invitationals.

Our official season starts in April and ends in late July with a two-day Walnut Creek Swim Conference Meet. Qualifying swimmers go on to participate in the "All County" meet the first weekend in August.

All interested parents are invited to attend the pre-season informational meeting for signups and what to expect information. In order to have a fun and successful swim team season, a cooperative effort is required from all parents in the areas of meet preparation, fundraising, spirit, concessions, timing, stroke & turn, and other fun activities.

Team members must first be members of the Larkey Private Swim Club. First year team families on the pool waitlist are offered a 'Splash Fee' membership price. Good for one year on the team only!  Swim Team and pool dues are subject to change (from year to year). *

* PLEASE NOTE: Due to team logisitics as well as pool capacity/safety, there are a limited number of swim team registration spaces in each age group, & priority registration goes to our existing team/pool member families (who will have two weeks to register before we open our team registration up to non-pool members new to team).
You can be on a one-year (additional $200/family) Splash Fee (instead of pool membership) as a new family to team without joining the pool, but you will be required to have a full pool membership every year your family are on team following that 1st year, and there are no guarantees that you will be able to secure a space on our team without a pool membership (or even with a pool membership once an age group registration reaches capacity).
For reference: in 2023 through 2025 our 7/8, 9/10, and/or 11/12 age groups filled up to capacity with existing pool members during the priority registration period, and we were not able to accept any Splash Fee registrations for those age groups.
If you are not already a Larkey Pool member household, and interested in our team, we would highly suggest you get on the pool waitlist now (as pool membership is currently waitlisted):

Want to be a Larkey Shark?  Great!  Jump in!  The water's nice!  A couple of things need to happen before you can join the Sharks:

Are you a pool member?  Super - then skip this part and go to the next section on swim team job and committee volunteer requirements.

Need a pool membership?  There are different pool membership options available to you (click on pool membership for more details). We also offer a $200 Splash Fee option for 1st year team member families who are on the waitlist, but not yet pool members (*also see the "PLEASE NOTE" section above).  Additionally, there is a separate $100 Splash Fee option for families with ONLY 15-18 year old Sharks swimmers that do not wish to join the pool.

Swim Team Fees for the 2026 season:

1 swimmer - $400 *
2 swimmers - $765
3 swimmers - $1,130
4+ swimmers - $1,495

* NEW: SPECIAL pricing only for the 15/18 age group! - $150 (plus $100 per family 15/18 Splash Fee or Larkey Pool Dues)

Exciting NEWs FOR 15/18 only families (started in 2025)!: Discounted pricing (see above)  for ALL 15/18 swimmers!

AND for families whose youngest swimmer is a 15/18:

  • the 15-18 Only Swimmer Larkey Pool Splash Fee is only $100 (reduced from $200 previously)
  • AND your 15- 18 Only family NO longer needs to fulfill a season long job or committee and only work jobs when their swimmer(s) attend major meets: City, Conference, Woodlands Invitational, and County.

Additionally, the Larkey Sharks is an all volunteer team (except for our coaching staff) and we are dependent on the involvement of the parents to make the season a success. Therefore (almost) all* team families are required to sign up for one job AND one committee each season (*some modified requirements apply for Head positions and 15/18 only families: NEW! Families whose youngest swimmer is a 15/18 NO longer need to fulfill a season long job or committee and only work jobs when their swimmer(s) attend major meets: City, Conference, Woodlands Invitational, and County).

This is a different obligation than (and in addition to) the Larkey Pool member maintenance requirement.  Jobs are typically the function of running a swim meet to include set up/clean up, starter, timing, desk, food, stroke and turn, and shepherding to get the littles to the right block on time for their race.  The committees are what makes Larkey Sharks special and fun.  These include our social events, fundraising, age-based social events, spirit week, camping, and many more.

A document with more detailed descriptions of the Jobs and Committees that will be available for sign-up (including information about where to sign-up) and additional Jobs and Committees information can be found here on our team website.

Required Forms:  Before any swimmer can get in the water for any practice, swim team forms, agreements and waivers need to be completed online during online registration.

When registering new swimmers PLEASE be sure to INPUT ALL INFORMATION CAREFULLY and ACCURATELY! Once member profiles are created in this registration system, a Swimmer ID is generated based on the information entered, that will follow your swimmer throughout their swim team experience (including use by high school teams...).  Birth certificates may be requested for verification and any discrepancies could lead to ineligibility and disqualifications (that impact both your swimmer and their team).

If you have ANY questions, concerns, or issues while attempting to register please contact the Sharks team board at [email protected] before finalizing the registration.
