Timer instructions for Cardless meet
o It is preferable but not mandatory that an experienced timer is also the scribe in their particular lane.
o There will be cards for all relays
§ Events 5-14 and 81-90
§ Runners will take cards after each event
o Lane Timer sheets will be used for all individual events.
o There will be several events on each sheet. Runners will only take sheets once all the events on the sheet have been completed.
o Swimmers should be body marked on the left shoulder with their last name. Scribe in each lane needs to check the swimmer name and ensure that it matches the lane timer sheet for each event.
o If the swimmer does not have a name on the shoulder, the scribe should ask the swimmer what their last name is and match it with the timer sheet.
o There will be instances when a swimmers name may not match the timer sheet:
§ Swimmer in the wrong lane (hopefully will get rectified before event happens)
§ Change by the Clerk of Course or Deck Referee
§ Filling in a previously empty lane
In any of these cases, the scribe should either fill in the empty space on the lane timer sheet or cross out the name on the sheet and fill it in with the correct name. Every effort will be made to communicate such a change ahead of time. Sometimes this just isn’t possible and the bottom line is that the time in your specific lane needs to go with the swimmer in your specific lane.
We want to keep the meet moving, so allow the swimmer to swim even if the name does not match and will make adjustments at the scoring table.
We will have numerous helpers in the heating area. If you are able to identify a mismatch of swimmer name vs. the name that appears on your lane timer sheet ahead of time, try to get the attention of one of the helpers who may be able to rectify the problem before the event occurs.
