BBT 2024 Swim Lesson Information

 
 

Overview

Free youth swim lessons are available to BBT members.  These fun lessons concentrate on stroke technique and other water skills (see objectives below).  Three two-week sessions are offered, and classes are 35 minutes each.  There is a limit of one session per child.


Lesson signups will take place at the pool (rain or shine) on May 11th from 8am to 10am.  Parents are asked to provide information in advance of the signups to make the signup process fast and easy.  There will be a second registration day on TBD from 12 p.m.- 1p.m.. if you are unable to attend the first registration day. 


Spots are limited, and they will be reserved on a first-come-first-serve basis to BBT members in good standing only.  Membership dues for 2024 must be paid in full before a spot can be reserved.

Process for Selecting and Signing Up for Swim Lessons

  • Step 1: Identify the appropriate age group and swim lesson level by matching your swimmer's age and ability to the descriptions listed below (Levels 1 through 4).  Use your swimmer's age as of May 31, 2024.  You can speak to Swim Program Director Emily Coleman at signups if you're having trouble choosing the appropriate class.

  • Step 2: Determine which session(s) your swimmer is available (Sessions 1 through 3).

  • Step 3: Determine which time(s) of day your swimmer is available (weekdays at 9:30 am or 10:10 am).

  • Step 4:  Attend the swim and tennis lesson signup day at BBT in the Snack Shack (rain or shine) on May 11th from 8:00am to 10:00am.  Be prepared to provide the desired class, session and time slot for your swimmer.  Spots are limited, and they will be reserved on a first-come-first-serve basis to BBT members in good standing only.  Membership dues for 2024 must be paid in full before a spot can be reserved.

 

Swim Lesson Sessions Available: Tentative dates based on PGCPS last day

  • Session 1:  Monday, June 17th to Friday, June 28th (weekdays only, no class June 19th)

  • Session 2:  Monday, July 1 to Friday, July 12 (weekdays only, no class on July 4th)

  • Session 3:  Monday, July 15 to Friday, July 26 (weekdays only)

 

Swim Lesson Times

  • Early Class:  9:30 am to 10:05

  • Later Class: 10:10 am to 10:45

 

Special Limited Classes

  • There will be a lesson for swim team members interested in lessons.  It will take place during the First Session at 10:10. 

 

Level 1 Swim Lessons

(no swimming experience required)

Age Minimum Ability to Enroll Objective

1 to 4

years

Please notice a change.  This will be a Mommy and Me style class.  Every student will need a guardian in the water with them.   Become comfortable in the water, blow bubbles, safely enter and exit the pool, supported front and back floats and supported kicks on both front and back.

4 to 6

years

N/A Fully submerge head while blowing bubbles, 5 consecutive bobs, supported front and back float with a standing recovery, supported front and back glide.  Pushing off wall into a front and back glide with a flutter kick for up to 10 ft.  
7+ years N/A Fully submerge head while blowing bubbles, 5 consecutive bobs, supported front and back float with a standing recovery, supported front and back glide, push off wall into a front and back glide with a flutter kick for up to 10 ft. 

 

 

Level 2 Swim Lessons

(some swimming experience required)

Age Minimum Ability to Enroll Objective

4 to 6 years

Swimmers should be able to float on front and back and put head under water. Independent front and back float, independent front and back glides, front crawl arms and kicks, back crawl arms and kicks, retrieving underwater objects and jumping into water over their heads.

7+ years

Swimmers should be able to float on front and back and put head under water. Independent front and back float, independent front and back glides, front crawl arms and kicks, back crawl arms and kicks, retrieving underwater objects and jumping into water over their heads.

 

 

Level 3 Swim Lessons

Age Minimum Ability to Enroll Objective
6 to 8 years Swimmers should be comfortable swimming freestyle and/or backstroke for 25 yards. Freestyle with side breathing, gliding, backstroke, breast stroke, dolphin kicks, treading water, jumping into deep water and dives.  

 

 

Level 4 Swim Lessons

Age Minimum Ability to Enroll Objective
8+ years Swimmers should be comfortable swimming 50 yards freestyle and backstroke. Swimmers will refine skills in freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, dolphin kick and butterfly, proper turning at wall, diving, treading water.
