Overview

BBT Swim Team is required to provide officials for each “A” meet, Divisionals, Bowie City Relays and the Bowie City Meet, and we rely on swimmers' parents (and some grandparents) to serve as Stroke & Turn officials, Referees and Starters.  We lose certified officials every season as swimmers age out or move on due to changing interests.

For those of you who aren't familiar with the two main categories of officials, they are as follows:

Stroke & Turn Officials:  This is the first certification that officials must earn, so if you don't have any certifications, this is the one for you.  These officials monitor swimmers, and they report any stroke and turn violations to the referee.

Referee/Starter:  Although it's one certification, the referee and starter have different roles during the meets.  The referee ensures that the meets are run according to the rules.  Both the referee and the starter assist with the start of each heat, but it's the starter who sounds the horn to begin each heat.  In order to earn a Ref/Starter certification, you must first earn a Stroke & Turn certification.

Referee/Starter:

For re-certification or for someone certified in Stroke & Turn that would like to certify for Referee/Starter.  To be eligible for this class, you had to be certified in either Stroke & Turn or Ref/Starter last summer
