Trails Wins Championship

The Algonquin Trails Swim Team took home the Northern Illinois Swim Conference B Championship on Saturday, July 16, led by head coach John Jost and the coaching staff: Maggie Gomberg, Faith Terlecki, Marissa Gerritsen and Kayleigh Kozlowski. Trails beat out second place McHenry Marlins by 600 points, followed by McGuire Aquatics, Antioch Waves Swim Team and Belvidere Barracudas. The win means that for the 2017 swim season, Trails will move up to the A conference. “A lot of hard work by the kids made it happen,” said Jost. In addition to 13 relay wins and  21 individual event champions, three Trails records were broken during the event. Alyssa Molinaro, 10, swam the 100 Freestyle in 1:11.59 to break the previous 9-10 Female record by 1.5 seconds; Grace Kozlowski, 12, broke her record from last year in the Female 11-12 50 Backstroke, with 31.20 seconds; and Alec Orndahl, 14, completed the Male 13-14 100 Backstroke in 58.18 seconds, which broke a record held since 2003 by .01 seconds. The event was held at Boylan Catholic High School in Rockford.
