Trails Wins Invitational Meet

The Trails Swim Team won its Invitational swim meet at Lions Armstrong Memorial Pool in Algonquin on Saturday, June 24, 2017. Trails finished the event with 628 points, besting the Geneva River Rats (592), Cary Barracudas (437), HealthBridge Hammerheads (146), Elgin Y Pelicans (134), Dundee Dolphins (120) and Huntley Stingrays (42). The last time Trails won was in 2009.

The 12-hour event featured swimmers from age 5 to 18, as well as an exhibition coaches relay, a highlight of the day.

The team had 160 personal best swims and three team records were broken. Anastasia Komarova, 6, broke the 6&Under 25 Meter Backstroke record with 28.20 seconds. The previous record was set by Grace Kozlowski in 2010. David Gatto, 6, set a new record in the 6&Under 25 Meter Backstroke with 30.03, which had been previously set by Gage Efken in 2005. He also bested his own record in the 6&Under 25 Meter Freestyle with 23.02.

The team, which took home the North Central Illinois Swim Conference B Championship last July, is part of the NCISC A conference and will compete against Cary, DeKalb, Geneva, Oswego and Rock River Valley in the conference championship on July 15. “It will be good for our swimmers,” said returning head coach John Jost. “We will be able to compete at a higher level to challenge competitive swimmers, but also maintain the fun, social aspects of a summer team that supports swimmers of all abilities.”

The Trails Swim Team is a tax-exempt, not-for-profit organization that provides a positive atmosphere for physical and emotional development for its members within a competitive swim program.
