SALIDA CYCLONE SWIM TEAM INFORMATION AND REQUIREMENTS

Participating on the Salida Cyclone Swim Team gives swimmers age 5 and over the chance to learn, to enjoy, and to become confident in the water. They learn to set goals and achieve them. Swimming is considered an individual sport, but it is also a team sport with relays and the opportunity for older swimmers to help younger swimmers both in and out of the water.

PRACTICES

Please see the calendar on the website for the practice schedule.  In April we start practicing at the Salida Hot Springs Pool anywhere from two to four days a week. After school ends, we practice four to five days a week for one to two hours each day. We request that the swimmers attend and participate in as many practices as they can. However, we know swimmers participate in other activities. Younger swimmers tend to swim fewer days per week than more experienced swimmers.

SWIM MEETS

Swim meets start in late May/early June and go until early August. They are from one to three days in length. Swimmers are not required to attend any meets. Swimmers are encouraged to attend some priority meets (particularly our own). Our meet is usually the 2nd weekend in June.. Most of the meets are within a four-hour drive of Salida (see Meets link for our meet schedule and SECAL website for pool locations), and there are usually campgrounds and motels nearby. All parents who attend a meet are required to help at all meets (home and away).

FUNDRAISERS

Running a swim team is expensive. We hire several coaches – depending on the size of the team.  Entry fees for the swim meets run anywhere from $20 to $35 per swimmer per meet, which is paid by the team.  All of these expenses add up very quickly, so we do a number of fundraisers throughout the season.  We have several fundraisers planned for the upcoming season and need everyone’s participation!

  • In it to win it- Swimmers sell tickets to friends and family.  Ticket purchasers are entered into a drawing for prizes.  $100.00 or more in ticket sales per swimmer (if a swimmer fails to obtain $100.00 in donations the parents will be required to make up the difference.) If you prefer, you can write a check for the $100 to the team.
  • Home Swim Meet– Advertising, set up, food sales, meet duties, and clean up.
  • Parade Water Sales- selling water/drinks from wagons at the FIBArk and 4th of July parades.

TEAM SUITS

Swimmers can wear any comfortable swim suit and goggles for practices. They also need to bring a towel and water bottle to practices. For our team suit, we will provide information later after season has started. (Team suits and caps are not required for participation- just available if you want them). Sharks, Dolphins, and Seals will need a snorkel  - see the Gear and Spirit wear tab for a link to order them on SwimOutlet.com.
