Team Santa Monica's Andy Lau put some remarkable times on the board on his way to several top 3 individual finishes and a 2nd place team finish at the annual North American Challenge Cup (NACC) in Santa Clara from August 5-7. The NACC meet is an "All-Star" meet boasting the top swimmers in the Southern California LSC, Pacific LSC, Pacific Northwest LSC, Canada and Mexico. Open Water Beckons Team Santa Monica Swimmers Team Santa Monica (TSM) swimmers took to the open water this summer, successfully representing Los Angeles County in Junior Lifeguard regional and national championships. Thirteen TSM swimmers won spots on the Los Angeles County Junior Lifeguard All-Star Team, qualifying them to compete at the California Surf Lifesaving Association junior regional competition in San Diego on July 23 and the United States Lifeguard Association junior national competition in Huntington Beach on August 5. Fifteen of Team Santa Monica's finest athletes completed a success-filled five days of competition at the Summer Gold Sectional Championship in Santa Clarita. The group achieved 21 personal best times, highlighted by Sam Ruddy's 6th place finish in the 200m Freestyle. Sam raced to a time of 1:55.68 in the preliminaries to earn a trip to the Junior National Championships in Irvine this August.
