Serafina King broke an S-10 classification American Para Record this weekend in the 50 yard backstroke. Her time of 33.2 in the split of her 100 backstroke at the Southgate meet surpassed the previous record by Susan Beth Scott of 33.96 that was set in 2007. Serafina is currently training for the April 2013 Can Am games in Minnesota which is the qualification meet for the World Championships. This is a great start for Serafina. Congratulations Serafina!

The Santa Monica Swim Center is now in the process of converting to swim passes for all permit groups, including Team Santa Monica. In the past, the Swim Center required TSM swimmers and other permit group swimmers to sign-in each time they attended practice. As part of this process, TSM parents will need to provide proof of residency in the form of a drivers license or utility bill to the front-desk for their swimmer. Here's a recent article featured in the internet publication, "Swim Swam," concerning TSM senior Eugene Tee's decision to swim for the University of North Carolina, an ACC swimming powerhouse. According to collegeswimming.com, Eugene is one of the top-ranked swimming recruits in the nation. The World Junior Open Water Championships finished up with Jordan Wilimovsky helping earn the USA their second medal. Jordan won a bronze as part of Team USA’s 3k event. Brendan Casey finished 6thin his individual 5k event and was 5thas part of team USA in the 3k event. In the individual girls 7.5km event, Lilliana Casso finished 17thin a field of competitors that included an Olympian and World Championship athletes. TSM’s Jordan Wilimovsky won a silver medal in the 7.5km race at the World Junior Open Water Championships behind Germany’s Rob MUFFELS . The bronze went to Jan MICKA of the Czech Republic. This was an extremely strong junior field with the 7.5km medalists capable of pool performances that rank amongst some of the best on the planet with 1500m free times of 15:18, 15:23, and 15:23 respectively.
