SMAC Winter Invite Recap
SMAC Winter RECAP
Congratulations to all SMAC swimmers who swam at the SMAC Winter invite on January 28th and 29th. We had 81 swimmers attend, swimming a total of 408 races. Of those 408 races, 65 were new events that the swimmer has never previously done.
We had a total of 33 first-places swims, 44 second-place swims, and 29 third-place swims.
First place finishers were Ethan Apicella (2), Lainey Brown (1), June Diggans (1), Henry Fox (1), Emme Heale (2), Jolie Heale (1), Mary-Louise Jamme (1), Liam McMahon (1), Julia Miller (1), Jake Nylander (1), Aiden Oswald (1), Daylie Oswald (6), Willow Phillips (1), Marko Rankovic (1), Tommy Rockwell (2), Mason Sever (1), and Sophie Wang (8).
Second place finishers were Ethan Apicella (1), Dilyn Carter (2), June Diggans (4), Henry Fox (4), Annie Heale (2), Emme Heale (1), Sage Hicks (2), Mary Louise Jamme (1), Elliot Knicely (3), Jake Nylander (1), Daylie Oswald (1), Cate Pearson (1), Filip Rankovic (1), Jack Rockwell (1), Tommy Rockwell (6), Jack Roper (1), Grady Santiuste (2), Mason Sever (2), Gunnar Stewart (1), Brendan Thomas (1), Max Tungate (2), Jakiah White (3), and Jaliyah White (1).

Of the 408 races, 344 of them were events swam previously by our Team. Swimmers dropped time in 213 of them. That’s a 61% best times, considering this is the last meet before your swimmers start to taper for their championship meets, that’s fantastic. Most of those drops stem from technique improvements.
Some stand-out time drops were
Jolie Heale who dropped almost a minute in her 500 free. Willow Phillips, who dropped 43 seconds in her 500. Emme Heale, dropping 42 seconds in her 1000, Troy Breeden-dropping 38 seconds in his 500. Julia Miller- 34 seconds in her 1000, Johnny Zevgolis dropping 23 in his 200 breast. Jackson Hankins dropped 15 seconds in the 200 Free and 16 in the 500 Free, Mason Sever 45 seconds in 500 Free, Levi Swinson dropped 47 seconds in his 200 Fr. Congratulations to Jackson Hankins for breaking 1 minute in the 100 free for the first time with a time of 57.21.
We also had 2 swimmers swim in their first ever SMAC meet, Eryk Alton, Landon Ellington. Big Congrats to them!
Mary-Louise Jamme swam her first 100 fly, Emma Nylander and Emme Heale swam their first 400 IM, Emme Heale and Cate Pearson swam their first 200 fly, Elliott Knicely swam her first 500 free. Nice job on some intimidating swims!
We had 21 swimmers in total swim the 500. Thanks to everyone who counted and cheered for all the 500 swimmers during their races!
Congratulations to the swimmers who made new Age Group Cuts:
Mason Sever, dropping 3 seconds to make it the 100 Back
Max Tungate, dropping almost 17 seconds to make in the 500 Free

Great job to all the swimmers who attended the SMAC Winter Invite. You’re seeing your technique work pay off, in a few weeks, you’ll see your training pay off. Over the next few weeks leading up to your championship meet make sure you’re getting plenty of rest, fueling your body with healthy foods, and staying hydrated.
Looking forward, we have our District Meet on Feb 24-25th, Senior Champs March 2nd-March 5th, Age Group Champs March 9th-March 12th. After our Championship meets, we’ll have a team get together at Crozet Pool on March 18th, everyone is encouraged to come!
