Re:      1) GBY Winter Open  2) GBSC Sub-Zero Meet  3)  Foxjet Winter Classic  4)  2012 Strong Kids Calling night & Swim-A-Long  4)  Assorted Notes

  1. The entry deadline for our Winter Open is this Sunday, January 15.  Please get your swimmers entered by Sunday.  The job sign-up closes on Thursday, January 19.  All families must provide workers for the session your swimmers are entered in.  Families are also welcome and encouraged to work other sessions also.  Remember that the parent committee pays all entry fees for those swimmers whose family works the meet session(s) that your swimmers are entered in.  Otherwise the swimmer will be charged double entry fees for the meet.  All info regarding this meet will be on our website.  Please look under GBY hosted meets on the drop-down menu under Winter Open for this information.  This is where all visiting teams will get information also.  The heat sheets should be posted by next Thursday at the latest.  The National Team will again be running a bake sale at the meet and will ask that all Gold Team swimmers donate 3 dozen cookies or bars and also welcome any other baked good donations from all GBY families.
  2. Sixty six GBY swimmers are participating in the GBSC Sub Zero meet at Southwest High School.  All warm-up times and the session timeline are on our website underneath this meet.  Coach Kris will be at the meet on Friday night and Sunday.  Coach Carissa and Bill will be at the meet all day on Saturday. Please make sure that you all arrive early for the warm-up times.
  3. Twenty one GBY swimmers are participating in the Foxjet Winter Classic at the University of Minnesota Pool.  Map is on our website.  I also have posted the warm-up times and session timeline on the website.  I will be at the meet but will leave after the Sunday morning prelims.
  4. 2012 Strong Kids campaign has begun.  Hopefully everyone read my request for volunteers to help make phone calls on Wednesday evening, February 8.  The DT Y still needs many more volunteers to help make calls.  Please contact me if you are able to help.  I also should have pledge envelopes out very soon to all swimmers on our team for our Strong Kids Swim-a-long. The Swim-a-long will be held on Wednesday, February 15 during practices but GBY swimmers will be able to do these laps at any practice.  We raised over $6000 last year and I am setting our 2012 goal for $7000.  That means that every swimmer needs to get about $50 in pledges.  We again will reward our top 5 individual fundraiser with a Speedo Backpack.  All GBY swimmers participating in the Swim-a-long will receive a custom GBY “Supports Strong Kids” swim cap.  I will pass the pledge envelopes out at practices as soon as we have them ready to go.  Thank you to everybody’s support.

  1. Assorted Notes

·         There will be no practices Friday, January 13, either AM or PM due to the swim meets.

·         Please find your escrow statements on the website and make sure that all families have ample monies in your escrow accounts for future meets.  There is no need to mail or e-mail these out because you have access to your statement at any time.  Thank you for keeping ahead of your escrow accounts.  All payments must be paid at the DT Y front desk or you may also mail your escrow payment but address it to GBY Swim Team Escrow.

·         The National team is also doing a Noodles & Company Fundraiser on Wednesday, February 8.  All GBY families are encouraged to eat at Noodles & Co this day.  The National Team will receive 25% of the sales for all people who participate in this fundraiser.  The National Team also asks that you pass this information along to family, friends and work associates so that they can help our National Team out in this fundraiser.

·         Please remember that all GBY swimmers must scan their membership card before entry in to our Y’s.  If you need a membership card, stop at any Y front desk and they can make you one.  I would suggest a key card which could be attached to the swimmer’s bag so they always have it.

·         Winter reminder – All swimmers should be dressing properly for the weather.  Including a winter coat, hat and no shorts.  I will try to monitor this when I can but please ensure that your kids are dressed properly for the weather.
