Re:      1)  GBY Sprint Meet  2) 2013 Strong Kids Campaign  3) Upcoming Dates  4)  Assorted notes

1)      We have 561 swimmers from 10 YMCA teams attending our GBY Sprint Meet this Saturday, December 1, 2012.  All information regarding this meet will be found under the Tab-GBY Hosted Meets/GBY Sprint Meet.  Here you will find all the heat sheets, entry list with heats and lanes, timeline, and warm-up assignments.  Please look this over very carefully and PRINT YOUR OWN HEAT SHEETS.  Thank you for everyone’s help and support at this meet.  I will ask that all morning swimmers (8&unders, 9-10’s) arrive at the pool by 6:50am to set up the pool area.  All parent of morning swimmers can help with setting up chairs, tables and laying rugs in various parts of the pool deck and stairwells. Our morning swimmers have warm-ups scheduled from 7:30-8:00am in lanes 5&6.  I will immediately after warm-ups have a team meeting near our bulletin board on the pool deck.  Afternoon swimmers should arrive by 12:30pm for a schedule warm-up in lanes 4,5 & 6, from 1:00-1:30pm. Again a team meeting will be held immediately after the warm-up session near our bulletin board.  Morning meet starts at 8:40am, and afternoon meet starts at 2:05pm.  Those swimmers swimming the afternoon session will be responsible for helping tear down from the meet to include putting all the tables and chairs back, picking up and storing the rugs, and tearing down the pool area.  All GOLD Swimmers are responsible for clean-up after the meet concludes Saturday night.  Thanks to all of our parents for getting signed up for a work assignment for the meet.  All families have access to that list on the website.  Workers should report to their work areas first thing in the morning or afternoon.  Meet Marshalls should check in with the meet directors.  Both sessions will have timers meeting in the hallway right outside the pool office about a half hour before the meet is scheduled to begin.

2)      We are quickly moving towards 2013. That means that the Green Bay Y Strong Kids campaign will be beginning soon.  A couple important dates to remember.  Wednesday, February 6, will be the Downtown Y Community Kick-off, and Calling Night.  I have already secured some volunteers to help make phone calls but can use more.  Please contact me and I will be glad to go over the Strong Kids calling night and how you can get involved.  I will also ask our Gold Swimmers to Volunteer for the calling night too.  2nd, Wednesday, February 20, will be our GBY Swim Team Strong Kids Swim-A-Long. This will happen during Gold practice from 4-6pm at SWHS, and for Bronze and Silver from 6:30-8pm at the DT Y.  All swimmers will receive a pledge envelope to go out and ask family, friends and neighbors to make a pledge to the Green Bay Y Strong Kids campaign.  Swimmers are perfect representatives of the YMCA because they can tell all their potential donors about their involvement on the GBY Swim Team and other programs that they participate in at the Y.  Swimmers can either get  pledges based on laps swam during the Swim-A-Long or just donations to the Strong Kids Campaign.  This will be our third year with this great event. We raised over $6000 the first year, and over $8000 from last year’s Swim-A-Long.  The YMCA and I appreciate everyone’s support and help with the Strong Kids campaign.  Last year the Green Bay gave over One Million dollars in scholarship and subsidies for Green Bay Y Membership and programs. Strong Kids allows the Green Bay Y to make membership and programs available to all members of our community. Again if you have questions regarding Strong Kids please contact me.

4)      Assorted Notes

·        There will be Friday afternoon practice for all Gold swimmers this week.

·        Park & Rec has asked us to move our Tuesday, December 11 practices from SWHS to Edison Middle School. The Green Bay United Boys high school team is going to host a meet at SWHS that evening.

·        Please ensure that everyone is keeping up with the Team events on the calendar.  Registration deadlines are coming up for the DCY Jingle Bell Meet and ordering Personalized swim caps. Those sign-ups close at midnight on Sunday, December 2.

·        Parent Group committee meetings have been moved to the first Mondays of the Month. Next meeting is Monday, January 7, 2012.

·        We have scheduled our annual awards banquet for Friday, May 10, at the Riverside Ballroom.  Please get this on your calendars right away.  We will do a sign-up for this on the website.

·        Please ensure that you have monies in your escrow account to cover all upcoming swim meets.  Thank you for taking care of this ahead of the charges.

·        A reminder to all GBY swimmers.  The only swim cap acceptable at meets is a GBY cap.  This includes are standard Blue cap but also includes the Yellow and Green Hats that have GBY on them too.  Also expected is for all swimmers to wear a team suit or an acceptable tech suit. Dark, one color is recommended on tech suits.  I have ordered more silicon hats and they should be here in about 3 weeks.  We still have latex caps available for sale at the DT Y front desk for $3.00 each.  There is also a order page on the website for personalized silicon GBY caps if interested.  I will send out a note when the new GBY silicon caps arrive.

·        A reminder that all GBY swimmers ages 8&over must scan their membership upon entry to all Green Bay YMCA’s.  If you need a new card stop at the front desk and have them make you a new one.  It is very time consuming especially during the rush around team practices to have to stop and type in your information manually to make sure you are a member. Thank you for taking care of this matter.

·        It is winter time.  Please make sure that all swimmers dress properly for the weather.  I expect all swimmers to have on and zipped up a winter coat as well as wearing hat on your wet heads when you leave practices.  A sick swimmer does no one any good.

·        REMINDER - All swimmers should be showering before using any pool for practices.  This can be a big help with the air quality.  Thank you for doing this.
