 Re:      1)   Friday Night 50’s  2)  WGLO Meet  3)  Summer Coaching

1)      Friday Night 50’s – This Friday night are our Friday Night 50’s. We have ten teams attending with 229 swimmers participating in the meet.  I will need all swimmers and parents at the pool by 3:30pm to help set up.  We will need to get the lane ropes, starting blocks, meet flags, timer’s chairs, lay down rugs, and  set up coaches tables and chairs.  Our team will warm-up from 4-4:30pm, and the meet will start at 5:05pm.  Reminder to all Gold swimmers that you are responsible for the clean-up at the conclusion of the meet.  Gift Baskets and Gift Cards – We also are in need of some more donations of Gift Baskets and Gift Cards for the Best Time raffle after the meet.  You may drop these Gift Baskets off at the DT Y front desk.  Gift cards may be handed directly to Coach Dave.  You may also bring these items to the meet and drop off at the awards table.  GBY National Team Food Stand and Bake Sale – The GBY National Team is in need of baked goods for their food stand at the meet.  All National Team swimmers or potential National team swimmers should donate baked goods.  I would also ask that all GBY National Team swimmers or potential GBY National Team Swimmers lend a hand at the food stand during the meet. Job sign-up – Please make sure that all parents have signed up to work the meet. There are still open spots.  I will leave this open through tomorrow night.

2)      WGLO Meet – This entry closes Friday night, June 14.  Please remember that you must have qualifying times to enter into most events.  You also must be  USA registered swimmer to participate in this meet.  We are only swimming on Friday & Saturday.

3)      Summer Coaching -  We need to get through this first week of practices because I am a little short staffed.  Carissa is still teaching but will be the 2^nd morning coach.  Kari is on vacation this week but will be back next week as the lead coach for the Bronze/Silver Sharks practice.  Nick Kaftan will be assisting with the Bronze/Silver sharks also.  I will also lend a hand with the Bronze/Silver Sharks too.  I will be running the afternoon Silver practice.  I will have Nick there to assist from time to time also.  When Coach Bill is in town he will also assist with all practices.  I am beginning the process to try to find a few new assistant coaches for the team so that we have them in place by the fall.  If anyone knows of anyone who may make a great GBY assistant coach please have them contact me.

5)      Assorted Notes

·         There will both a Friday and Saturday morning workout this week and a Friday morning only next week due to the FCY Summer Invite.

·         Colburn Park Practices– Please make sure that all swimmers are on the pool deck at 6:30am to set-up the pool. 

·         Parent Group committee meetingshave been moved to the first Mondays of the Month. Next meeting is Sept 9, 2013.

·         Please take a look at the event calendar.  Entries are open for the WGLO Meet & the FCY Birdbath Invite.  The FCY Summer Invite entry is closed and posted on the web site.  Please make sure that you get entered by the deadline.

·         I have also been told that because of the lateness of the Birdbath Meet that Oshkosh will probably not be hosting their July 21 meet. And could not get any of kind of definitive answer from OSHY this weekend.  They are in a transition with their coach leaving.  I will keep you posted on this.  I actually have found an alternative that weekend that I can replace this meet with.

·         Gift baskets and Gift Cards are needed for our Friday Night 50’s meet.  We have drawings at the conclusion of our Friday Night 50’s meet and we need donations of “Themed” Gift Baskets and various gift cards that the swimmers in the meet would enjoy.  Please drop all items off for Coach Dave at the DT Y front desk beginning June 10.  Thanks for helping out and making this meet a great success.

·         GBY swim families have the opportunity to participate in a scrip program to help raise monies for your escrow accounts.  A power point presentation is posted on the website (under documents tab) to explain the whole program and to allow you to get involved with the Scrip program.  Thank you to the GBY Gymnastics Team for allowing us to join in with their program.

·         A reminder that all swim team members must scan their membership cards upon entry into our YMCA’s.  If you have lost your card ask the front desk and they can make a new one for you.

·         A reminder that all swim team members should be taking a soap shower before entering any YMCA pool.
