  1. Oshkosh Y Make A Difference Meet  – Twenty Three GBY swimmers are entered in the OSHY Make A Difference Meet.  The meet is this Sunday, July 20.  Oshkosh will not send out warm-up times or heat sheets until Friday and possibly Saturday.  As soon as I receive this information I will post it on our website.  Do not forget that you must bring a canned good for each event you enter in lieu of entry fees.  They usually have a table set up as you walk in the door.  I will be at this meet all day.
  2. 13&over USA State – Due to what I expect will be very low participation (6-8 swimmers) in the 13&over USA State Meet I will not be sending a GBY Coach to the meet.  I have made arrangements with the host team (Southeast Aquatics Y) to allow our swimmers to warm-up with them.  Their head coach Neil Wright is very glad to make sure that you get your proper warm-up in and also is there if anything comes up administratively with the meet to help you.  I will be available if you have any questions at all or just need to talk to me about a race.  My cell phone number is above.  I will be following the meet closely on the meet mobile. With our commitment to attend Y Nationals and with three GBY swimmers already qualified and a few more very close I would expect this to be what we do for the future in the summers if we continue to attend the Y National meet.  We did not send a coach in the past to the 13&over meet when our team was regularly attending the summer Y National Meet prior to our 6 year hiatus from the National meet.

Coach Carissa will run my prepared workouts in the afternoons on Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday, July 28-30, for these USA State swimmers.  All practices will be held the same time as the double workouts were held except will run about an hour and a half long.  Those swimmers participating in the 13&over meet only should attend these practices.

Those swimmers attending will need to read over the meet information carefully and also check the session reports for their event times.  There is a separate pool for warming up and warming down so families can get to the meet when they need to.  But again we will be assigned an AM warm-up time which a few of our swimmers will need to attend because of where their events may fall.  I will plan a meeting with these swimmers prior to my departure to 12&under State and Indianapolis.

  1. 12&under USA State – We currently have (13) GBY swimmers entered in the meet.  I will be sending this final entry in on Monday, July 21.  Please ensure that your entry is correct.  I will be attending this meet on Friday & Saturday and will have Coach Kari come down for the Sunday of this meet.  As I get more information on the meet I will pass it along.  Southwest Aquatic Team is the host team for this meet.  You may want to check their website for quicker access to information about this meet.
  2. GBY Team Championship Meet -  Next Wednesday afternoon, July 23, is our annual Summer Team Championship Meet.  Swimmers should arrive at 3:45pm to set up the pool and warm-up.  The meet should start around 4:30pm and end before 6pm.  I will need parents to time and also to run the computer and timing system. Also if any our officials would like to officiate the meet please show up.  We will call for a timer’s meeting at the meet.  Computer and timing system people should be ready to start the meet at 4:30pm.  I will post the entry list and heat sheet on the website.  Hopefully as early as Tuesday afternoon.
  3. August Practices – I will update the August calendar to reflect those days that we will offer workouts for our year round swimmers.  Coaching availability is the reason that some days there will be no workout.  Year round swimmers registered last fall to participate in these workouts.  I will allow other swimmers to attend but you will be charged $5.00 for each workout you attend through your escrow account. These workouts will all be held at the DT Y pool and run from 4:00-5:30pm.
  4. Upcoming Meet Entries -  Both the 12&under and 13&over USA State entries close Sunday night, July 20.  The Team Championship meet entry also closes Sunday night, July 20.  Please make sure that everyone gets entered by these deadlines. Y Nationals and Y National Time Trials entries also close on Sunday night, July 20.

  1. Assorted Notes
  • I will not be in the office tomorrow but will be at morning practice.  I will be running  Friday AM workouts both this week and next week .  Coach Bill will run a Saturday AM practice this week and next week.  All Y National swimmers and 13&over USA State swimmers should attend next Friday & Saturday’s workouts.
  • Fall practice group placements – I will be sending out a good explanation in regards to what group our current swimmers should try in the fall.   Please check the calendar for the Pre-season Stroke & Training Sessions beginning September 10.  These are open to all Gold, Silver, afternoon Silver and to even some our summer Bronze swimmers who may be ready to move to the Silver practice group.  These clinics give my coaches and swimmers a good taste of what their next step may be.
  • Parents needed for Parent Group Committee – There are a couple spots opening up on the Parent Group Committee.  If a parent is interested please contact myself or a current member of the Parent Group Committee.  We would like these new parents in place by our September meeting.
  • The Next Parent Group Committee is Monday night, September 8, 2014.  All Parent Group Committees are held from 5:30-7:00pm, in the 2nd floor lobby area of the DT Y.  Parent Group committee members are Lynn Anderson – Facilitator, Jill Zablocki – Meet Director, Annjie and Mark Nowak – Food Service, Bob Howe & Amy Wolf – Equipment, Tim Van Gheem – Financial, Heidi Neverman – Awards Banquet & Recognition, Scott & Heidi Socha – Social & New Family,  Jeff & Beth Gahnz -  Marketing, Pat Stoa – Senior/National Team.
  • Please remember to scan your membership cards when entering any YMCA
  • Please remember to take a soap shower before entering any YMCA pool.  There are many reasons that a swimming pool creates chloramines.  Two of the biggest reasons are unclean people using the pools without taking a soap shower and people urinating in the pools.  At the Y National meet there was a presentation on Chloramines and their cause.  And the above two are the biggest issues that make Chloramines.  It is very important that all of our GBY swimmers take a soap shower before entering any Y pool and of course please ask the coaches to use the rest rooms if needed during practices.  The DT Y had little chlorine issue a couple of weeks ago but everything at the DT Y is now back to normal.  Again, please take showers and use the rest room before entering the swimming pools.
  • Please remember that the GBY swim team is a part of the GBY Gymnastics Scrip program.  If any family is interested in earning some extra money for their escrow accounts should check out the Scrip program.  Scrip information is under the documents tab on the web site.
  • Please ensure that you keep ample monies in your escrow accounts.  A swimmer will not be allowed to enter in a meet unless they have the monies in their escrow account to cover the meet fees. The website is set up to make sure that you have monies in your account when you enter a meet.  All escrow fees may be paid at the DT Y front desk, or by calling the DT Y front desk to pay by phone. Thank you to everyone for keeping up with your escrow accounts. Please do not wait until it is too late to get money into your account.  All information for your escrow account may be found under your account page on the website. And please keep ample monies in your escrow account to cover all upcoming charges.  All meet entry fee charges are done on the Monday following the meet.   If by chance you cannot enter a meet because of your escrow account. E-mail Coach Dave with your swimmer’s entry numbers by the entry deadline date and I will get them into the meet.
