Hello GBY Swim Team,
I hope everyone had a great week. We had a successful week of practice, and I'm very encouraged with the progress I’m seeing in our swimmers.
Announcements
- I’d like to clarify a point from last week’s Newsletter, regarding Swim Team tuition. The Sport, Exercise and Performance Psychology Program service provided by the UWGB interns is offered free of cost to the YMCA. This program has no direct impact to our tuition increase.
- Mental Performance Consultation is an incredibly valuable service offered to us, and an exciting opportunity for our swimmers. I am very excited to welcome Alex and Abby.
- As a reminder, all athletes need and informed consent form on file, signed by parents/guardians, before the team and individual swimmers can receive any services with Alex and/or Abby. Forms were sent home with the swimmers this week. Please return them as soon as possible.

- Parents and swimmers, if you have any extra flippers that you’d like to donate to the Swim Team, I would greatly appreciate it.

Swim Talk with Ellen McKenzie
Ellen McKenzie is a Yoga Therapist, Somatic Educator and Tension & Stress Releasing Exercise (TRE) Provider. In her private practice, with Red Beard Somatic Therapy (Madison, WI), she works with a broad range of clients supporting them around conditions like chronic pain, anxiety, surgical recovery, improved athletic performance, autoimmune disease, healthy aging and more. As a former swimmer who competed at a national level, Ellen has a special place in her heart for others doing that kind of intensive training.
TRE – Tension & Stress Releasing Exercise – is a simple technique that induces a natural shaking response in the body (called neurogenic tremoring) which helps release accumulated tension from the body. This tension could be related to everyday circumstances of life, difficult situations, immediate or prolonged stressful situations, or traumatic life experiences (i.e., natural disasters, high stress, social or domestic violence). This work has been used with athletes to support autonomic recovery during periods of high intensity training, reduce performance anxiety and prevent overuse injuries.
