Colorado Swimming Ranks 8th in USA Swimming LSC’s for Safe Sport Recognition Clubs

Barbie Barker

Colorado Swimming is now back in the Top 10 of the LSC’s with Safe Sport Recognized clubs. At the beginning of the USA Swimming Safe Sport program, Colorado Swimming was listed in 1st Place. We dropped out of the Top 10 a while after that, but are now back in the standings at 8th Place with 18 clubs being Safe Sport Recognition certified as of the September, 2022 results. The clubs that helped us back into the Top 10 ranking are: ACES Swim Club, Boulder Swimming, Colorado Springs Area Swimming, Colorado Torpedoes, Front Range Barracudas, Durango Swim Club, Elevation Athletics, Fort Collins Area Swim Team, Greenwood Tiger Sharks, Pikes Peak Athletics, Pueblo Swim Club, CAC Boulder Riptide, Rocky Mountain Rapids, Denver Stingrays, Eaton Red Waves, and Woodmoor Tsunamis.

We have 14 clubs with close to/enough points to obtain Safe Sport Recognition. A key stumbling block for obtaining the certification is often getting enough of their parents and athletes to take their respective Athlete Protection Training. When the SWIMS 3.0 module for a club’s Safe Sport tab in the club portal is active again (some time in November), clubs will be able to see the list of those who have completed their APT course.

The total Safe Sport Recognition point requirements for the different type of clubs are:

Coach owned: 50.25 points

Parent Board owned: 51.75 points

Institution owned: 49.5 points

Those clubs who are close to obtaining the Safe Sport Recognition certification are:

Aspire Aquatics – 58 points

Brighton Bullfrogs – 40 points

Denver Swim Academy – 55 points

Foothills Swim Team – 55 points

Highlands Ranch Aquatics – 54 points
