2018-2019 Summary

  • Charger Aquatics has 4 swimmer sign on National Letter of Intent Day to swim with Division I schools - Natalie Jones (Univ of Arkansas), Keelan Hart (Purdue Univ), Max Hawton (Univ of Kentucky) and Jack Hoagland (Notre Dame Univ).
  • CAQ once again wins the High Desert Classic by almost 1000 points.
  • Charger Aquatics travels to Austin, TX for the Speedo Winter Junior National Meet and finishes 16th as a team.  The boys team finishes 13th overall behind great swims by Jack Hoagland, Keelan Hart, Max Hawton, Darien O'Donnell and Jake Hand.  They set a new LSC record in the boys 400yd free relay at 3:02.89 (Hawton, Hand, Hoagland and Hart).  Those same boys were also 7th in the 800yd free relay. Allison Bernier finished 14th in the mile.
  • Charger Aquatics adds 7 members to the USA Swimming Scholastic All-American Team - Allison Bernier, Natalie Jones, Jake Hand, Keelan Hart, Max Hawton, Jack Hoagland and Darien O'Donnell are all part of the largest group ever from NM to be named to the team.
  • Charger Aquatics is again recognized as a Bronze Medal Team, #114 in the nation for 18 & Under swimmers, for the 3rd time by USA Swimming.  We are the only team from NM to ever be awarded this honor more than once. 
  • Charger Aquatics finishes 7th at the AZ Dual Meet Champs in Paradise Valley, AZ.  

2017-2018 Summary

  • Charger Aquatics hosts the 11th Annual High Desert Classic and 466 swimmers compete during the weekend.  Notable out of town teams are Tucson Ford, Colorado Springs and Rio Salado.  This is the fastest meet yet as numerous meet records fall, both individually and relays. Several swimmers qualify, or add events, for Winter Junior Nationals.  Jack Hoagland swims the fastest 500 Free ever in the AA pool at 4:30.12.
  • CAQ takes 6 swimmers to Winter Junior Nationals in Iowa City, IA.  Natalie Jones, Allison Bernier, Jack Hoagland, Max Hawton, Keelan Hart and Jake Hand represent the largest group form CAQ to ever travel to Winter Juniors
  • CAQ finishes 23rd at Winter Junior Nationals West in Iowa City, IA. Top swims were turned in by Ally Bernier (7th in the 1650 FR), Keelan Hart (100 FR), Jack Hoagland (200 IM and 400 IM) and Max Hawton (100 BK). The boys 800 Free Relay finished 9th and set the LSC record at 6:43.04.
  • Charger Aquatic wins their 18 State title in March. This also marks the 13 straight championship for the team.
  • Coach Shea retires at the end of the March.  For 12 years she has been an integral part of the organization, mentoring several thousand swimmers and being involved in numerous LSC activities. Shea is replaced by Coach Aimee Dunavant
  • Jack Hoagland verbally commits to Notre Dame for the 2019-2020 school year.
  • Charger Aquatics wins the NM Long Course State title giving us 19 total wins and 14 in a row.
  • Several CAQ swimmers perform well at the Western Zone Age Group Championships in Roseville, CA.
  • Charger Aquatics takes 6 swimmers to Speedo Summer Junior Nationals in Irvine, CA.  Jack Hoagland, Max Hawton, Keelan Hart, Jake Hand, Darien O'Donnell and Allison Bernier have a great meet as CAQ finishes strong with a 15th place finish in the boys 400m Medley Relay.  Max Hawton was also 15th in the 100m free. Keelan Hart finished 19th in the 100m free, Jack Hoagland was 17th in the 200m IM and Allison Bernier was 23rd in the 1500m free.

2016-2017 Summary

  • Charger Aquatics is once again recognized as a Bronze Medal Club with USA Swimming and becomes the first club in NM Swimming history to receive the award twice. Final rankings place CAQ as #124 in the nation
  • CAQ has 3 swimmers already committed to colleges for next year - Lee Moffett - Sandia HS (signed) to Cleveland State (OH), Alan Senn - Volcano Vista HS (signed) to University of the Cumberlands (KY) and RaeLeigh Stansbery - Bosque School (signed) to University of the Cumberlands (KY)
  • CAQ takes 3 swimmers - Natalie Jones, Max Hawton and Keelan Hart - to Winter Junior Nationals in College Station, TX
  • CAQ has another strong showing at the Arizona Dual Meet Champs as they finish 6th
  • CAQ finishes 1st at the short course state meet.  We now have 16 state titles and 11 in a row
  • Charger Aquatics takes 19 swimmers to the Four Corners Sectional Meet in Lewisville, TX.  We finished 12th as a team and have added 2 more swimmers - Jack Hoagland and Jake Hand - to the list of national swimmers for CAQ
  • CAQ finishes 3rd at the Arizona Speedo Invitational in Mesa, AZ.  50 swimmers made the trip to the heat of the desert and we had some fantastic swims from all of our athletes
  • CAQ finishes first again at the long course state meet in Farmington, bringing our team total to 17 and now 12 in a row
  • CAQ takes 33 swimmers to the American Long Course Finals in Lewisville, TX and brings home a 3rd place finish.  The boys team finishes 2nd and the girls rallied for a strong 3rd place finish. Jack Hoagland wins the Male High Point Award. 
  • Keelan Hart (50 & 100 Free) and Allison Bernier (800 Free) qualify for Summer Junior Nationals
  • CAQ has 4 swimmers names to USA Swimming's Scholastic All-American Team - Keelan Hart, Jack Hoagland, Lee Moffett and Natalie Jones

2015-2016 Summary

  • Coach Liz Brown joins the staff from Las Cruces as Coach Cristina Kawamoto decides to step down from club coaching to focus on masters swimmers
  • Charger Aquatics is recognized by USA Swimming as a Bronze Medal Club in their Club Recognition Program. Final rankings place CAQ as #128 in the nation
  • 5 CAQ swimmers compete at Speedo Winter Junior Nationals - Kevin Benavidez, Hank Gullick, Max Hawton, Anthony Kim and Sarah Lott swim well in Austin, TX.
  • CAQ takes 4th place again at the Arizona Dual Meet Championships
  • CAQ swimmers win 50% of the NMAA High School State Championship events
  • CAQ wins another short course state title - the 14th team title and 9th consecutive
  • CAQ finishes 4th at Western Senior Sectionals in Federal Way, WA.  
  • Charger Aquatics finishes in 2nd place at the Speedo Invite in Mesa, AZ.
  • Charger Aquatics has 6 swimmers heading to college to continue their careers - Kevin Benavidez (Ariz State), Hank Gullick (Columbia), Anthony Kim (Texas A&M), Ian Kingsolver (Colorado School of Mines), Patrick Hawton (Pacific Lutheran) and Sarah Lott (Utah).
  • Charger Aquatics wins another long course state meet - the team now has 15 titles and 10 in a row.
  • CAQ takes 26 swimmers to the American LC Final meet in Dallas
  • 8 Charger swimmers travel to Clovis, CA for the Western Zone Senior Championships
  • Sarah Lott competes at the Speedo Summer Nationals
  • Charger sends several swimmers to the Age Group Zone Meet in Utah.  Henry Li wins the 100 breaststroke and sets the NM Swimming state record in the process.
  • Sarah Lott and Kevin Benavidez are named to USA Swimming's Scholastic All-American Team. Kevin becomes our second athlete to receive the special 3 year award from USA Swimming.

2014-2015 Summary

  • Hank Gullick and Anthony Kim swim well at Winter Junior Nationals in Federal Way, WA
  • CAQ 14 & under swimmers take 4th place at the AZ Dual Meet Championships
  • CAQ wins another Short Course Championship - the 12th for the team and 7th in a row
  • Charger Aquatics finishes 5th at the Western Sectionals meet in Federal Way, WA.  We sent 24 swimmers (our most ever) and had several fantastic swims
  • Former CAQ swimmer, Michelle Howell, now a senior at Denison University in Ohio, wins the NCAA Div 3 title in the 200 and 400 I.M.
  • CAQ finishes 2nd at the Speedo Arizona Invite in Mesa, AZ - May 2015
  • CAQ wins the Long Course Championship again - the 13th team title
  • We have our first Olympic Trials qualifier as Anthony Kim makes his cuts in the 100 and 200 backstroke events in Dallas.  He also wins the men's high point award and the team finishes 5th.
  • The team takes 24 swimmers to the Senior Zones meet in Clovis, CA and 18 to the Age Group Zones Championships in Maui, HI.  CAQ swimmers Ally Bernier (400 IM & 200 Fly), Darien O'Donnell (200 Fly) and Adam Fusti-Molnar (200 IM & 100 Breaststroke) win their events
  • Kevin Benavidez, Sarah Lott and Tyler Wickesberg are named to the USA Swimming Scholastic All-American Team.  Tyler becomes our first athlete to repeat the award for three years and, in doing so, receives special recognition from USA Swimming. 

2013-2014 Summary

  • CAQ wins their 6th Short Course Championship - the 10th team title
  • CAQ finishes 4th at the Speedo Arizona Invite in Mesa, AZ - May 2014
  • CAQ wins their 5th Long Course Championship - the 11th team title
  • Anthony Kim wins the "C" final at Speedo Summer Junior Nationals in the 100 Fly
  • CAQ sends 21 swimmers to Age Group Zones in Federal Way, WA and 18 to Senior Zones in Clovis, CA
  • Tyler Wickesberg, Hank Gullick and Kevin Benavidez are listed on the Scholastic All-American Team for USA Swimming

2012-2013 Summary

  • CAQ takes their 5th Short Course Age Group Championship (8th overall)
  • CAQ wins the NMS Senior Champs meet for the 3rd straight time
  • CAQ wins their 4th Long Course Championship (9th overall)
  • CAQ sends 19 swimmers to Age Group Zones in Roseville, CA and 16 swimmers to Senior Zones in Clovis, CA
  • Tyler Wickesberg is named to USA Swimming's Scholastic All-American Team

2011-2012 Summary

  • CAQ continues with another SC Age Group Championship (4th for SC and 6th overall)
  • CAQ captures 1st place again at the Senior Champs Meet in March
  • David Brooks finishes 8th in the 100M breaststroke at Sectionals, making him the first Charger swimmer to place in the top 8 at the meet
  • Senior 2 Coach John Butcher is hired at the end of January
  • CAQ wins their 3rd LC State Championship, bringing our total to 7 championships
  • CAQ takes 3 swimmers to the LC Sectional Meet in Portland, OR
  • CAQ takes 16 swimmers to the Senior Zones Meet
  • 14 swimmers from Charger Aquatics, out of 30 total, represent NM Swimming at the Age Group Zones meet in Grand Junction, CO

2010-2011 Summary

  • CAQ wins another SC State title (their 3rd and 5th overall)
  • CAQ wins the Senior State Championship in March
  • 3 swimmers, Henry Homans, Stephen Klein and Dylan Lake, swim at the NCSA Junior National Meet in Orlando, FL
  • Michelle Howell becomes CAQ's 1st ever USA Swimming Scholastic All-American
  • David Brooks qualifies for Winter Nationals after posting the fastest time in the 100M breaststroke at the Senior Zones Meet in Clovis, CA
  • CAQ finishes 8th at the Senior Zones Meet 

2009-2010 Summary

  • Anthony Kim becomes CAQ's first National Champion in the 11 yr old boys 100 YD Fly.  His time was 57.77. He was also ranked in the top 10 in the following events: 50 Back (7th), 100 Back (4th) and the 50 Fly (7th) 
  • Duncan Lee also appeared in the top 10 list in several events, including the 50 Free (3rd), 100 Free (2nd), 200 Free (5th), 500 Free (9th), 50 Back (2nd), 100 Back (2nd), 200 Back (3rd), 50 Fly (4th), 100 Fly (3rd), 100 IM (3rd) and 200 IM (6th)
  • Duncan Lee wins 50m, 100m and 200m Freestyles at Western Zones for 11-12 boys.  He was also 2nd in the 50m Fly and 100m Back and 3rd in the 50m Back
  • Chris Coriz finishes 6th in the 1500m Free and 7th in the 400m IM at Western Zones for 17-18 boys
  • CAQ wins their 2nd LC State Championship - 4th overall
  • 4 swimmers attend LC Sectionals in Mt. Hood, Oregon
  • 10 swimmers attend Austin Grand Prix in March
  • CAQ wins 2nd SC State Championship - 3rd overall
  • CAQ captures 1st place at NM Senior Championships - Women 3rd & Men 1st

2008-2009 Summary

  • Kalani Kaula wins the 17-18 boys 100 Free at LC Zones in Oahu, Hawaii. He was also 2nd in the 50 & 200 Free and 4th in the 100 Fly
  • Michelle Howell finishes in 3rd place in the 15-16 girls 200 Fly at LC Zones
  • CAQ finishes 2nd at both SC & LC State Championship meets
  • CAQ takes 2 swimmers to SC & LC Sectionals
  • Team grows to almost 200 swimmers
  • Anthony Kim becomes CAQ's first Nationally ranked swimmer in the 11 yr old boys 50m (9th), 100m (7th) & 200m (6th) FLY events

     2007-2008 Summary 

  • CAQ wins their first LC State Championship - 2nd overall
  • Team size stabilizes at about 120 swimmers for the summer
  • CAQ wins first-ever SC State Championship in February '08

  • Suzanne Scheiltz takes over as Head Coach in February 2007
  • CAQ finishes 3rd at both the SC & LC State Championships
  • Suzanne Scheiltz leaves CAQ in September 2007 to take Head Age Group job in Durango, CO
