Development 2 (Competitive - Year 5-8)

It is at the Development 2 level in which swimmers move from primary stroke and technique instruction to more emphasis on training. Drill work and kicking will continue to make up a large portion of the practices; however, swimming sets will be added. At this level, goal setting will be introduced and swimmers will be expected to be more accountable for their swimming progression.

Consistent practice attendance is necessary for continued improvement and advancement to the next group. In regards to squad progression, swimmers cannot move to senior performance until they are in secondary school. This is to allow our swimmers who show great potential in Development 2 to further enhance their skill set before working towards development of the energy systems and being physically capable to deal with the rigours of training.

Minimum session attendance: Swimmers are required to be attending 3 sessions per week in this squad.

Development 2 (Development - Year 9-13)

Swimmers enrolled in Development 2 in this sub-group are looking to maintain a good level of overall fitness and enjoy their time in the pool without the pressures of trying to make highly selective competitions. Those enrolled in this sub-group of Development 2 may look to balance their competitive swimming with other sports and ECA’s and by committing to two sessions per week, are still keen to continue improving in the pool and may still be keen to join some of the competitive calendar, in particular host competitions.

Swimmers in senior development may also enjoy the opportunity to join the water polo program on Friday afternoons. We would accept attendance of the water polo session as one of the two sessions students commit to. We believe it encourages the students to challenge themselves in a diverse range of activities in the water whilst still encouraging a challenging workout.

Expected attendance each week: Two sessions per week.
