NKB Makes Waves at All Ages

Heather Page Fairley

This past Tuesday, the Barracudas came together to officially kickoff the new season with an evening full of games, team bonding, shared meals and celebration.  And of course, it was a busy night on the stage as the triumphs of the 2022-2023 were recognized!  Our Barracudas broke records and climbed from regional to provincial to national rankings.  Swimmers demonstrated grit and tenacity as they dropped literally hundreds of seconds of improvement across their events.  Our more veteran Barracudas showed what it really means to wear the green and black as they demonstrated leadership in academics, camaraderie, training, and sportsmanship.  And, our most senior athletes and coaches travelled across Mexico, the United States, Spain, and Israel as they swam their way to national and international titles.

It’s safe to say we’ve set the bar high for ourselves, but there are no doubts that these Mighty Barracudas are ready to rise to the challenge of reaching new heights in the 2023-2024 season.

AWARD OF MERIT
The swimmers at NKB not only swim fast but are very dynamic individuals.  The recipients of the Award of Merit are swimmers who have demonstrated in the pool that they train, race, and perform with great success.  Moreover, they do it with a positive attitude.  They can also be seen supporting teammates, volunteering, leading cheers, and regularly contributing to the positive, family-oriented climate at NKB.

MOST IMPROVED SWIMMERS
NKB Swimmers are constantly striving to improve – strengthen our core, lengthen our stroke, streamline tighter, increase our arm turnover.  It sure feels great when we can see the results of this hard work!  These swimmers showed the largest drop in time across all of their events during the 2022-2023 Season.

FIRST TIME QUALIFIERS
Throughout their careers, our swimmers will experience many firsts – first final swim meet, first final swim, first tour team selection…. Just to name a few.  These NKB swimmers have achieved some of those firsts during the 2021-2022 season by qualifying to their first Championships at the Regional, Provincial, and/or National levels.  We know these are just the first of many accomplishments!
