History

The Red Deer Silhouettes Artistic Swim Club (RDSSC), formerly Red Deer Sychronized Swim Club is a non-profit registered society that has been a member of the aquatic community since 1987. We are the only artistic swim club in Central Alberta. Our board of directors and active parent support group hold monthly meetings, focusing on developing programs and exploring avenues for sustainable funding. Parents are encouraged to attend monthly meetings.

RDSSC provides children and adults the opportunity to learn the sport of artistic swimming in a safe and supportive environment, learning and developing skills while promoting self-esteem and leadership. We expect our athletes to take away the skills they’ve learned and apply them to their daily lives. We hope to have swimmers enter RDSSC at an early level and remain with us until they graduate from high school and beyond.

Our programs are designed to help develop self-confidence, goal setting, good work ethic, and team building. RDSSC provides quality programming to encompass all levels of artistic swimming to the City of Red Deer and surrounding areas including Bowden, Innisfail, Lacombe, and Sylvan Lake.

We offer many programs including: AquaGorecreation, competitive, and adult. Our competitive athletes attend provincial and national events. Our recreational athletes learn the basics of swimming, physical literacy, flexibility and artistic swimming.

Our head coach is instrumental in the success of our club. We also employ several assistant coaches whose contributions are essential to our competitive, recreation, and summer programs.

The name of the sport internationally was changed from Synchronized Swimming to Artistic Swimming at the FINA Congress in 2017, at the suggestion of the International Olympic Committee to better align with other artistic sports. RDSSC members voted on a fresh new name to represent the club. There, the Red Deer Silhouettes were born.
