The purpose of this course is to achieve the following objectives:
Enlarge the number of officials and improve officiating at Open Water Swimming competitions;
Unify the Open Water Swimming officiating procedure;
Use the course as an instrument to develop and promote Open Water Swimming worldwide.
Please note the following information related to the designation & courses for Open Water Swimming officials:
The FINA Open Water Swimming Certification Schools cater to experienced Open Water Swimming officials who require more in depth training of skills at an advanced level.
They are designed to prepare and certify highly qualified officials wishing to be on the FINA OWS Lists.
Candidates must be at least 16 years old on December 31 in the calendar year of attendance. Nevertheless, they must be aged 18 years or older in the year of attendance to receive certification.
Only participants who have successfully completed the test in English or French will become certified. Certification is valid for a four-year period.
In addition, each certified official must take the FINA Open Water Swimming Online Course which will be available in English on the FINA Learning Platform.
Officials who have passed the FINA Open Water Swimming Certification School Exam, the FINA Open Water Swimming Online Exam and who have officiated at a required level will be eligible for the FINA OWS Lists.

A FINA Open Water Swimming School for Officials is scheduled to be held in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic (DOM), from 3rd to 4th March 2017.
The purpose of this course is to achieve the following objectives:
- Enlarge the number of officials and enhance the quality of the existing ones;
- Create a uniform pattern of interpretation and application of Open Water Swimming rules, thus raising the quality of officiating;
- Use the course as an instrument to develop and promote Open Water Swimming worldwide.
Please note the following information related to the designation & courses for open water swimming officials:
- Officials who have passed a FINA OWS School will receive a certification, which is valid for a 4-year period.
- FINA OWS Officials List N° 12 (valid from January 1, 2017 to December 31, 2020): all new applications, not including renewals, must have attended and passed a FINA OWS School.
- FINA OWS Officials List N° 13 and all subsequent FINA OWS Officials Lists: all new applicants and renewals must have attended and passed a FINA OWS School.

OPEN WATER CLINIC FOR OFFICIALS IN ANTIGUA
We extend an invitation to all of you to participate in our 2015 FINA Open Water Clinic which will run from Monday 9th to Thursday 12th November 2015 in St. John’s, Antigua.
Our facilitator is Jorge Delgado of Ecuador who will also be the Chief Referee for our two Open Water events – 29th ABSF National Open Water Championship and 1st OECS Open Water Championship.
The clinic sessions will be held from 5:30 pm – 8 pm. The open water event on the Sunday 8th November 2015 will be considered a practical component of the course.
There is no registration fee.
Please share this information with your members and volunteers. Kindly indicate by October 27th persons desirous of doing the clinic as well as any persons willing to act as officials for the open water event.
