FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (ISR)
1. How do I know which level to register my child?
Babies 6-12 months old should start in Level 1 lessons that are 4-6 weeks.
Once children are walking, they can start in Level 2 lessons that are about 6 weeks long.
2. Why are lessons only 10 minutes long?
The number one reason is always safety. Lessons are mentally and physically demanding for the little ones and we never want to fatigue or exhaust them. For their little bodies, this can be quite the workout, so we make sure to limit the time that they’re in thew water because we want to be sure to see them the next day. The second reason is for the retention of skills. It’s proven that children in this age range attain skills best within the first 10 minutes.
3. Why are lessons 4 days a week?
We know that 4 days a week might seem daunting, but we promise it’s worth it! ISR Self-Rescue Skills are developed just like any other sensorimotor skill. When learning to walk, crawl, or even ride a bike, it’s the practice and repetition that makes for success. Muscle memory is what allows your child to Self-Rescue as soon as they hit the water.
4. How is ISR different than traditional swim lessons?
ISR lessons are primarily for babies 6 months of age through toddlers up to 3 years old. Our primary focus is to make sure each student can SURVIVE in the water and be an aquatics problem solver. We give them real life situations, like using their skills in full clothing, to make sure they are prepared for real life drowning scenario. Our goal is to always do what is safest for each child and what is best for their survival .
5. My child has completed ISR level 1 and Level 2. Now what?
If your child is three years old, he or she can start in the intermediate group swim lesson level with Excel Aquatics. If your child is not three years old, he or she can take and ISR refresher course.
6. Can my child wear goggles during ISR lessons?
No, goggles are not allowed in ISR Classes. We want children to have all the skills necessary to survive an accidental fall into the water, and to do that they must learn to open their eyes underwater.
7. Can I get a refund if my child does not attend.
You will receive a full refund if you cancel the registration prior to start of the session. However, the ISR Registration for medical clearances is non refundable unless your child is not cleared by the Registration Evaluation Team because of a medical reason.
8. My child missed a class. Can we schedule a makeup?
ISR will only issue a refund or provide a make up lesson if the class is cancelled by ISR due to weather or water conditions or availability of the instructor. In the event that your child is unable to attend due to illness, make up lessons will be provided with a doctor’s note. Please keep in mind that make up lessons are subject to Instructor availability and may be held at a different time than originally scheduled.
9. How will I be notified of class cancellations?
Due to weather or water conditions, there are times when cancellations happen. In most instances, these cancellations must be done with very little notice. As soon as the decision is made to cancel a class, you will be notified VIA email.
