Job Title: Assistant Coach

 

Job Description: With guidance from BAAC’s Head Coach, the Assistant Coach will design and conduct the training program for the team’s novice and/or advanced groups.

●      Novice: These groups are designed to be an introduction to the competitive sport of swimming where athletes learn the legal strokes, good practice habits, and how to be a great teammate. Typically, these groups consist of swimmers ranging 6-12 years old. This group currently practices 5 days per week at 45 and 1 hour per practice respectively.  Coaches do work with both groups consecutively in practices.  Coaches will teach from the water and give swimmers in these groups a solid foundation for competitive swimming.

●      Advanced: These groups are designed for goal-oriented swimmers who have shown a level of skill and dedication to the sport that would have them seeking a higher level of performance each and every day. Currently, this group consists of swimmers ranging 5-18 years old. Amongst them are Team Record Holders, LSC Championships, Zones and Sectional qualifiers, and Futures Championship qualifiers. This group currently practices 6 days per week at 1.25 to 2 hours per practice.  These groups typically run consecutively each night.

Responsibilities: BAAC’s Assistant Coach will:

–      Collaborate with the team’s Head Coach to develop seasonal training plans for Novice and/or, Advanced groups, and the Advanced practice groups within the philosophy of BAAC’s program.

–      design and conduct our Novice and/or Advanced groups, including developing and implementing dryland workouts.

–      Create fun and engaging, yet challenging, skills based practices for their training groups.

–      Attend all assigned swim meets in which swimmer’s from under their direction are attending.

–      Attend and participate in all staff meetings as requested by the Head Coach.

–      Collaborate with the entire staff to develop benchmarks for measuring our swimmers’ improvement and increasing opportunities for all swimmers on the team.

–      Work with the Head Coach to oversee individual and team entries, submit entries and post any relevant meet information to our website.

–      Track swimmers’ training goals and statistics along with monthly attendance figures. This includes individual goal meetings with swimmers on a seasonal basis and any additional meetings as needed.

–      Attend and participate in our LSC House of Delegates meetings , especially the coaches segments.

Job Requirements:

–      Experience with Team Unify and On Deck is recommended. Ability to learn quickly is required if applicant is not familiar.

–      Strong organizational skills and ability to give attention and critiques to all coached athletes on a daily basis in practice environments.

–      Ability to meet all USA Swimming certification and coaching requirements (CPR, Safety Training for Swim Coaches, USA Background Check, Athlete Protection Training, etc.

–      Passion and excitement for the sport of swimming and teaching athletes is a must.

 

Team Description: Buffalo Area Aquatic Club uses two main pools.  Our Advanced groups train in an Olympic-sized pool in the Alumni Arena, which is located on the University at Buffalo’s Northern Campus in Buffalo, NY. Our Novice groups get instruction and development at Sweet Home Middle school (just around the corner from the University at Buffalo North Campus) for the added benefit of a smaller setting.  On occasion, we do work out of other local pools to the University at Buffalo area.  BAAC wants to add a progressive and goal-oriented coach that will provide BAAC a competitive edge in the region while continuing to give our swimmers excellent opportunities for advancement.

 

Prior to the 2023-24 SC season, BAAC has won the LSC Age Group Championship in the 2022-23 season, runner up in 2021-22 and several Small Teams Division at Niagara’s LSC Championships for 5 years in a row prior to 2018.  The team has grown from under 50 swimmers to over 200 swimmers in the past 5 years.  Our goal is continued growth and progress amongst our swimmers and our program.

 

Buffalo, affectionately referred to as The City of Good Neighbors, is shedding its Rust Belt image and is home to a new waterfront, great restaurants (not even counting the wings), and is among the most affordable cities in the U.S. You’ll rarely commute for more than 20 minutes, and proximity to Toronto puts a major metropolis within easy driving distance.

BAAC holds Recognition Level 2 as a Board-governed team and is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.

 

Compensation: This is an hourly position with compensation based on qualifications and experience. Job related education and travel expenses are covered or reimbursed.

City Swim Project - Learn-To-Swim Director

 

The Learn to Swim (LTS) Director under the direction of the Executive Director is responsible
for organizing and implementing a diverse and safe swim program which will incorporate large
group and individual activities, swim lessons for all ages and promote program participation.
Responsibilities also include hiring, staff supervision, budget oversight, planning and
confirmation of staff assignments and schedules and staff training. The LTS Director is
responsible for providing quality leadership and supervision in a safe, enjoyable, and positive
environment that promotes member wellness and engagement in accordance with City Swim
Project policies and procedures. The LTS Director will develop plans and will implement new
procedures and methods to achieve strategic goals. The position’s key function is to build
strong, lasting relationships with members, employees and volunteers that will build healthy
lifestyles.
 
 
The selected candidate will be required to be a member in good standing with USA Swimming.
As a member in good standing, the selected candidate must pass including but not limited to: a
USA Swimming Background Check, Athlete Protection Training and adhere to all USA Swimming
and USOC Safe Sport protocols.
 
Responsibilities Include:
 
Essential Functions
• Must have strong customer service skills
• Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate all learn-to-swim staff.
• Develop, implement, track, and oversee the LTS department budget, in accordance with
City Swim Project budget guidelines and approval of the Executive Director.
• Review program schedules, staffing capacity and revenues to meet the community
needs.
• Maintain proper health and safety standards, in accordance with City Swim Project, USA
Swimming and Risk Management Inc.
• Know and understand all, state and local health and safety requirements, including Pool
Safety Plan, Emergency Action Plan, Emergency Evacuation Routes and staff
certifications.
• Collaborate and build positive relationships with participants, parents, staff and
community organizations, in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
• Serve as a role model to promote and demonstrate professional demeanor.
 
• Maintain all records, in accordance with regulations, staff training and certifications,
member registration, attendance and surveys as well as evaluation of participant skills,
and Department of Health (DOH) requirements.
• Maintain personal certifications and be responsible for recertification before expiration.
• Actively participate in training sessions, designated meetings and special events.
• Maintain office hours accessible to membership
• Manage learn-to-swim instructor payroll
Qualifications
• High School Diploma or GED required. Bachelor’s degree preferred in the area of
Physical Education, Exercise Science, Health Education or related field.
• Minimum of one-year experience in an aquatics related management position.
• Certified as a lifeguard, CPR, First Aid, USA Swimming Coach (WSI, CPO and/or LGI
certification preferred).
• Excellent communication skills. Must have excellent oral communication skills to work
positively with different populations, in groups and individually.
• Customer service oriented
• Effective leadership skills and strong work ethic.
• Efficient, well organized, and able to handle a variety of duties simultaneously

• This position requires that the LTS Director be able to swim well enough to maintain

• Due to multiple pool sites a vehicle and drivers license is required.
• Be proficient or capable of learning computer programs such as Team Unify, Hytek and
social media.

Clarence Swim Club - Learn-To-Swim Head Coach 

 

Certification Requirements 

  • LTS Head Coach must hold the following certifications: 
    • USA Swimming Level 1 Coaching Certification and/ or American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor. 
    • American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Certification 

 

On-Deck Work Responsibilities 

  • LTS currently holds four seasonal registrations: 
    • Fall: September – December 
    • Winter: January – March 
    • Spring: April – June 
    • Summer: July & August 
  • On deck coaching hours have historically been: 
    • Mondays & Wednesdays (5:15 PM to 8:45 PM).  
    • Saturdays, 8:15 AM to 1:30 PM. 
  • Responsibilities include but are not limited to: 
    • setting up and managing all LTS registrations
    • managing the LTS website
    • assuring appropriate lesson coverage
    • being available for parents’ inquiries. 
    • setting level groups, group criteria, and swimmer expectations. 
    • the education and supervision of all coaching staff and instructors.
