GTSA Says “No Walls, No Problem!”

This past Saturday GTSA participated in the 2012 Hurricane Man Race.  Not only did the team participate, GTSA was the largest team represented at the race.  We had 13 swimmers compete in the 1,000 meter distance and 10 finish the 2.4 mile race.  If you include the 10 parents and masters swimmers there were 33 people competing that call The University of Tampa pool home.

It was in no way just a show of numbers there were plenty of great finishes from our members as well, which included 17 swimmers finishing in the top 5 in their age groups.  Those were highlighted by top 3 finishes from Gabby Donahue, Morgan Tankersley, Sydney Whitfield, Christopher Dieffenthaller, Victor Cogdill, Ryan Gober, Mike Mulbarger, and Jason Gorrie.  The coaches were so proud of how all the swimmers competed, especially since this was a majority of the peoples first time participating in the open water.  I wanted to extend special congratulations out to a few GTSA parents who competed Jason Gorrie, Jane Haughney, Liz Sanchez, Pancho Sanchez, and Jerry Whitfield.  It was awesome to see all of you out there!

The beach day that followed was full of fun and games with family and friends.  This is quickly becoming one of GTSA coaches, members, and families’ favorite days of the year!
