Emma Donahue Receives Invaluable Opportunity

This weekend Emma Donahue will represent GTSA and the state of Florida at the 2012 USA Swimming Convention in Greensboro, NC.  United States Swimming is an organization that consists of over 300,000 athletes. Emma is a part of select group that will represent all of these swimmers. Below is an excerpt from an email sent to email detailing her responsibilities and what she has to look forward to.

There are many leadership and educational opportunities for athletes at this event, which will be attended by approximately 580 voting delegates. Athlete representatives actively participate with the leaders of our sport and are expected to contribute their own perspective during discussions and seminars. They are involved in our legislative process, which will determine the rules that govern our sport as well as the election of the people who will fill our national leadership positions. They learn about Roberts’ Rules of Order and parliamentary procedures during approximately 20 hours of meetings and workshops.

During the convention, USA Swimming offers leadership development to athletes, opportunities to make presentations and motions in front of a large group, and mentoring opportunities with other athletes who are attending their first convention. During the convention, athlete representatives are also expected to participate in an outreach clinic that will bring a water safety program to inner-city youngsters and volunteer at a local food bank.

When you see her next, please thank Emma for representing our state and our club on such a significant level. Also, if any younger athletes are interested in get involved I am sure Emma would love to help.  Way to go Emma!
