GTSA Shines at Sr. Championships
This past weekend the premier senior swimmers in the state of Florida gathered in Orlando at the 2013 Florida Spring Senior Championships. GTSA was well represented by seven of our own senior swimmers.
Thursday night began with distance freestyle events. It was a strong night for GTSA, with Gregory Campo swimming the 1,000 Freestyle in a new lifetime best of 10:02.53. The remainder of the team would not hit the pool till the next day.
Friday brought even more great swimming from GTSA. Eight different times swimmers touched the wall with new best times (Campo 2, Cogdill 1, Deedrick 1, Genne 2, Heath 1, Shumake 1). Those great swims lead to four finals swims. Shumake and Genne finished 18th in the 200 Breaststroke, while Gregory Campo finished 19th in the 100 Fly and 13th in the 400IM.
Carter Flynn was the star of day two picking up one of GTSA’s two best times in her 200 IM and their only night swim with her 10th place finish in the 100 Backstroke. The other best time came from Tyler Heath in his 100 Backstroke.
Sunday was possibly GTSA’s best day of the entire meet. Eight more personal best times (Campo 2, Cogdill 1, Flynn 2, Genne 2, Heath 1) and six finals swims. Gregory Campo started the final session with a 1:54.66 in the 200 Butterfly, which is and NCSA Junior National Qualifying Time. Next the breaststroke crew of Julia Cogdill, Margret Shumake, and Blaise Genne finished 16h, 11th, and 14th respectively. Carter Flynn finished a solid weekend with and 8th place finish in the 200 backstroke, and Greg ended the meet finishing 18th in the same event!
It was a very successful weekend for the Senior Swimmers of GTSA! The teams 14&under athlete will get their turn next weekend in Sarasota, FL.
