GTSA Rides the "Blue Wave" to a Championship
After three days of great swimming, GTSA amassed 451 points to win “The Peacock Invitational” with 53 more points than the nearest competitor. Of the 37 GTSA swimmers to participate in the meet, 24 of them scored individual points. That is almost 2/3 of the team! Each point was crucial in winning a meet with 14 other teams participating.
Greater Tampa had two swimmers recognized in the individual high point races. Ally Donahue scored 55 points to finish 2nd in the Senior Girls, while Morgan Tankersley scored 66 points to win the 13-14 girls high point award. Morgan finished first in her final event, the 800 freestyle, to finish 2 points ahead of her nearest competitor. Ally(2) and Morgan(3) were joined by William Aneiros, Cameron Davidson, Reagan Flynn, Tyler Heath, Matt Kramer(2), and Jeremy Parker as event winners for GTSA on the weekend. I had a count going on how many “mystery heat” towels the team was winning, but I lost count sometime on Saturday because the number became too large!
It was a great team meet for GTSA, and not just because we came away with the win. We had fast swims across the board, as well as great support for each other. Our team was consistently up and cheering on their teammates, which is awesome! I hope that we can have this carry over to our next meets in Jacksonville and Largo.
I have one final note. Jase Dominic, who is 10, volunteered and completed the 1,500 freestyle on Sunday! He was one of only two 10 year olds to do so at this meet, as well as in the state this year. I hope that all of you will give him a pat on the back, and keep him in mind when you are determining if the 400 free is “too long” of an event when signing up for your next meet!
