GTSA Stunning at Senior Championships!

This past weekend the best senior swimmers in the state of Florida convened on the International Drive YMCA, in Orlando.  The meet had over 700 athletes representing nearly 60 clubs statewide.  GTSA was represented well by 9 of our senior swimmers.  Over the three and a half day, prelim and final meet, GTSA amassed 149 point which was good enough for an 18th place finish!  That was the highest finish by any team with single digit representatives.

Of the 9 swimmers representing GTSA at the meet 6 of them were able to qualify for finals in at least one of their events, including top 8 swims from Ally Donahue and Derek Krell.  The men were also able to achieve a 3rd place finish in the 400 Freestyle Relay with a time of 3:06.

The last night of the meet was an exciting night for multiple reasons, but a couple stood out to me.  First, Tyler Heath dropped nearly 4 seconds in his 200 Backstroke, touching the wall in a time of 1:53.89.  That time qualifies Tyler for the NSCA Junior Nationals.  That joins him with Greg Campo, Ally Donahue, and Morgan Tankerlsey as GTSA swimmers to achieve such a standard.  Please be sure to congratulate him when you see him!  Also, it seems as if Sunday was the end of a swimming career for one of GTSA’s seniors.  Margret Shumake has decided to hang up the goggles as she finishes up her final year in high school and looks forward to college!  Although it saddens us that we will no longer see Margret at the pool every day, we are very excited for what her future holds!  We know she will always make us proud!  Thank you for your time and commitment to GTSA Margret!
