A dozen Tidal Wave swimmers competed at the Best of the South meet at GA Tech over the weekend. This was a high-level competition that saw several national records established. Our swimmers rose to the occasion. Nikolay Chernev won the 13-14 boy’s 1000 free (10:03.19)!!! The Senior Mixed 200 Medley Relay secured a 5th place finish (J. Watkins 24.19, I. Martin 26.24, R. The inaugural Peach State Championships at GA Tech over the weekend saw some fast swimming. Congratulations to Tommy Zundel on breaking a 20-year-old team record by 7 seconds!!! Tommy finished his 200 free in 2:43.17, establishing a new 8 & under boys’ team standard! Last weekend, the Age Group State Championships took place in Savannah, GA, the first time outside of Atlanta in over a decade. In a venue that is clearly not big enough to host this event, our team of 26 swimmers adapted, and swam great! The team placed 6th overall out of more than 30 teams that participated. The best high school swimmers in the state converged at GA Tech for the high school state championships from Wednesday - Saturday of last week. Smaller schools competed Wednesday and Thursday, while large school competition was held Friday and Saturday. The GA Winter Qualifier served as a last chance for Tidal Wave swimmers to achieve new age group state time standards, and as a last chance to qualify for the Peach State Championships. Our swimmers took advantage of the opportunity! Three new swimmers, Daesoo Johnson, Hayden Quathamer, and Jaxon Suggs, added their names to the state championship roster.
