Tidal Wave’s 2025 long course competitions are now complete. Three Tidal Wave swimmers, Nikolay Chernev, John Jones, and Jaxon Ward represented Georgia Swimming at the Southern Zone Age Group Championships in Orlando, FL over the weekend. Two senior level championship meets were held over the weekend. Senior States was held at UGA, while Futures was held in Ocala, FL. Better than 20 Tidal Wave swimmers participated across the two meets. Bennett Baer swam the fastest 200 back in team history – twice. At Futures, Bennett swam a 2:10.99 during prelims, before recording a 2:10.70 in the finals session. 2025 Long Course Age Group State Championships The weekend of July 17th-20th, brought our team to Columbus, GA for the Long Course State Championships. Tidal Wave Swimming brought 30 swimmers to the State Championships and an additional 7 swimmers to the “B” Championships. We had 37 swimmers, ranking as the 5th largest team at the meet, despite being only the 14th largest in the state. Congratulations to all the swimmers for another successful meet! The DYNA Coda Classic served as an opportunity for some swimmers to add their names to state rosters. Tidal Wave swimmers responded in a huge way! William Harris achieved his first state cuts in the 10 & under 100 back and 100 breast! McKenzie James (200 breast) and Clarissa King (200 back) added their names to the 11-12 girls state roster! The Stu Hixon Invite served as a great opportunity for Tidal Wave swimmers. AJ Bullock and Gabe Thornton achieved their first age group state and senior state cuts, respectively! After a long weekend of racing, there is no question that Tidal Wave left its mark in Ocala, FL. The Betsy Dunbar Invite served as a great weekend of racing for Tidal Wave swimmers. This meet can be difficult as we have changed training/sleep schedules, added a late night of summer league racing, and swimmers must remember how to navigate chase starts. Tidal Wave swimmers were busy over the weekend, split between the SA LC Kickoff at GA Tech and the Bulldog Grand Slam at UGA. Better than 80 Tidal Wave swimmers competed in the first long course meet of the season. In fact, it was the first long course meet ever hosted at the Cherokee County Aquatic Center. While there were some growing pains early in the meet, our swimmers performed well. Nikolay Chernev jumped on the first meet, breaking team records in both 13-14 boys’ breaststrokes.
