Safe Sport

Overview

As an USAS member club and Safe Sport Recognized team, DCS supports and adheres to all initiatives that protect our swimmers.

Our Safe Sport Coordinator is swim-parent, Cassie Kitchens. Cassie is a also a member of the DCS Board of Directors.

If you have any questions or concerns about Safe Sport, please contact Cassie at [email protected] or look for her at the pool.

To deal with a Safe Sport concern, contact USA Swimming at (719) 866-4578.

To make a report, contact the U.S. Center for Safe Sport. Call 833-5US-SAFE (587-7233) or use the online reporting form. You can find more information at http://www.uscenterforsafesport.org/

Safe Sport also provides policies, education, a reporting structure, and tools that are intended to serve our members as we work together to maintain this environment. Safe Sport Training

  1. Scroll down to the middle of the page.
  2. Select your role: Parent or Athlete.
  3. Register for the training: Parent or Athlete. There are a list of available training sessions. The next parent training session is August 13 at 3pm. 

For Parent Training

  1. Visit https://learn.usaswimming.org/
  2. Click “Register”.
  3. Click “Create Account” in the Non-Member Access box.
  4. Follow the prompts to register an account.
  5. Click “Courses.”
  6. In Parent’s Guide to Misconduct in Sport, select “Add Course”.
  7. Select the Parent’s Guide to Misconduct in Sport course to start.
  8. Complete the course using the prompts.

For Volunteers/Chaperones/potential officials, etc. we need you to complete two items:

  1. Athlete Protection Training: https://www.usaswimming.org/resource-center/athlete-protection-training
  2. A background checks for volunteers: https://www.usaswimming.org/safe-sport/complete-a-background-check

Safe Sport Recognized Steps

  1. Go to https://learn.usaswimming.org
  2. Click on either “REGISTER”

  3. If you are a USA Swimming member (athlete),
    1. Click on “START”
    2. Scroll down and enter your first name, last name, and date of birth, then click “search”. Your name and club code will appear below the search button.  
    3. Click “Continue”. That will bring you to the ATHLETE PROTECTION TRAINING portal.  
    4. Click “START”. You may be asked to update your profile (enter your email, LSC (GA) and club name (Douglas County Stingrays). You will be told your profile has been updated and you may move to other pages.  Look at the bar at the top of the screen:
    5. Select “COURSES”. If you are an athlete, look under “Safe Sport for Athletes” 
    6. click “ADD TO CART” 
  4. If you are a non-member (parent), click on “CREATE ACCOUNT”
    1. Enter your information
    2. Click “REGISTER”. The site will welcome you and tell you that you have not started any courses. 
    3. Click “COURSES”. You will see a number of courses available. Look under “Parent’s Guide to Misconduct in Sport”
    4. Click “ADD TO CART”.  It will display a checkmark, and say “IN CART”
  5. Click on the shopping cart at the top right-hand of the screen and select “CHECKOUT”.  
  6. There is no charge, however you will be required to enter your name and address. NO billing information is required. 
  7. Click “Next Step”. On the next screen, 
  8. Click “Place Order”
  9. Go to “DASHBOARD” and click “START” your course.
  10. Click “Next” to proceed from segment to segment.  The course takes about 10 minutes.
  11. Click “SUBMIT” when you are done. You will receive a congratulatory message, indicating that you have completed the Safe Sport course.

You are encouraged to (but not required to) take additional courses.
