Certification Procedures
The following standards have been established by USAS to provide a clear and uniform path for members who wish to become officials at the local level, enable LSCs to develop and conduct programs to recruit, certify, educate, train and mentor USA Swimming officials and to provide competent and consistent officiating for our athletes.
Apprentices working towards becoming certifiied at any position, should track their apprenticeship using the appropriate Apprentice Training Log (ATL), all of which are available below. Please print out and take your ATL with you to each meet at which you will be apprenticing. Complete 1 ATL per meet. Have the trainer assigned to you complete your ATL and remember to turn your ATL into the Meet Referee before your final departure from the meet. We highly recommend taking a picture of your ATL prior to leaving it with the Meet Ref.
Your ATL will be logged by the Meet Referee as part of LSC records. Once a minumum of four training sessions have been completed, please reach out to the GULF Officials Coordinator so that your logs can be reviewed prior to certification. If there are skills that are still needed, an action plan will be put in place for you. You can contact Natalie Melenric, GULF Officials Coordinator, at [email protected] and Fred Bogar, GULF Officials Chair, at [email protected].
