Annie Levy

Bloomington - Assistant Coach

Email: [email protected]

Annie has about 17 years of competitive swimming experience—she started swimming at age 6 and officially retired at age 23. She grew up swimming for Bloomington Swim Club, where she was coached by both Jeff LeBeau and (now) Coach Kyle Johnson. She was a Zones level athlete, a 3x Sectional Champion in the 100 Breaststroke, and a 4x First Team All-Conference qualifier for BHSS. In the summers she trained with BSC and Indiana University, swam a season with ISC when the club was first founded, and later continued her career at the University of Indianapolis, where she specialized in the 200 Breaststroke and 200 IM.

What Annie loves most about coaching is seeing the sport from a new side. She says she has learned more about swimming by coaching it than she did as an athlete, and she loves helping swimmers build confidence, understand their technique, and fall in love with the process.

Outside the pool, Annie is an educator. She graduated in 2023 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Elementary Education (with a focus in Special Education and Reading), and most recently taught Middle School English at the International School of Indiana where she also coached swimming and was an assistant Track & Field coach. That experience is what sparked her passion for international teaching.

A fun fact: Annie is moving abroad in January to begin her journey toward teaching English internationally.

Her favorite food is dim sum mostly because she loves having a little bit of everything.

In her spare time, Annie is currently learning the language of the country she is moving to and loves hiking and keeping her mind challenged with new skills and adventures.

This past summer, she gained additional experience coaching at Indiana University’s swim camp, where she worked with swimmers of all ages and skill levels. Coach Ebba joined ISC last spring and is excited to continue growing as a coach. She enjoys coaching because it allows her to share what she’s learned from her years in the sport while helping swimmers build both their skills and confidence. She especially values the opportunity to guide kids who are just beginning their swimming journeys. In her spare time, Coach Ebba enjoys working out, spending time with friends and family, and getting out on the lake whenever she can.

Reece Alexander

Bloomington - Assistant Coach

Email: [email protected]

Coach Reece has been passionate about swimming for as long as he can remember. Specializing in the individual medley and breaststrok, Coach Reece has also coached for Emerald Aquatics in his home state of Oregon and taught swim lessons to athletes in all age groups. What he enjoys most about coaching is seeing that "lightbuld moment" when an athlete truly connects with the feedback and sees their hard work pay off in the water. Outside of the pool, Reece is an avid traveler who completed a 1,000 mile backpacking trip across Europe last spring and summer. In his spare time, he enjoys painting, and drawing, and endulging in a bowl of classic mac and cheese.

Joanie Blackwell

Bloomington - Lessons Coordinator

Email: [email protected]

Joanie is thrilled to be the new Lessons Coordinator as of Fall 2025, and to welcome the children and families who are new to ISC. For her, there is nothing like seeing a child’s joy at being in the water and pride in learning how to swim, especially if they overcame fear to get there. The years she spent teaching lessons and coaching a summer league team bring back wonderful memories that make her excited to return to this work.

She believes that swimming is the best sport because it is a critical life skill for children and adults, whether they swim recreationally, for exercise, or competitively. It teaches perseverance, hard work, confidence, and how to push yourself individually through the support and camaraderie of team. Swimming is inherently fair, both calming and fun, and full-body fitness you can do safely your whole life.

Joanie started swimming at age 7 for Upper St. Clair Swim Club in Pittsburgh, PA, and went on to serve as co-captain of the Upper St. Clair high school team. Specializing in breaststroke and IM, she swam for Davidson College (NC) on a partial scholarship (2000-2004). There, she broke the school record in the 200 breaststroke, earned all-conference academic honors, and co-captained the women’s team her senior year.

Joanie graduated from Davidson with a B.A. in English and Spanish, and recently earned a graduate certificate in Philanthropic Studies from The Lilly Family School of Philanthropy at IU Indianapolis (2023). Now an ISC swim parent (with her husband Nick, whom she swam with at Davidson) of three children in the Junior (Penelope), Red (Philip), and Lessons (Natalie) groups, she thanks her own parents regularly for all they did to support her participation in the sport.

Outside of the pool, Joanie is a teacher at St. Mark’s Preschool and Kindergarten. She enjoys spending time with her family, whether it be reading books aloud or having dance parties at home, going on adventures near and far, or driving to and from the many natatoriums throughout Indiana.
