Coaches and Directors
Kayla Aldan is in her first season as an assistant swim coach
for Kraken Swimming.
Aldan’s coaching experience prior to Kraken was as an
assistant swim coach at the Boardman Tennis and Swim Club (BTSC)
under the direction of Head Coach, Terry O’Halloran, from
2006-2011. She worked most often with the swimmers in the 12 and
under age groups.
Before getting into coaching, Aldan volunteered as a junior
coach from 2003-2005. During this time and under the guidance of
the coaches, she interacted with the youngest age group swimmers on
the team.
Aldan’s collegiate swim career lasted for two years at the
University of Mount Union where she focused on mid-distance and
distance freestyle events. She was awarded a Varsity letter both
years.
As a swimmer for Boardman High School, Aldan earned four Varsity
letters and was appointed team captain her senior year. She was a
Division I District Qualifier during her sophomore, junior, and
senior years, and she wrapped up her senior year as a Division I
State Qualifier. She also participated in several record-breaking
relays.
Aldan started her competitive swimming career at BTSC during the
summer of 2000 at the age of nine and joined Penguin Swimming for
winter training after her first summer in the pool.
Aldan double-majored at Mount Union and graduated in 2012 with a
Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology and English: Literature.
When not in the pool, Aldan can be found crocheting and spinning her own yarn on her spindles and spinning wheel. Each year, she selects several of her creations to be put on display at the Canfield Fair. She’s also written a selection of short stories and is working on her first novel.
