Minnesota Swimming Meet Officials

Becoming a Minnesota Swimming Meet Official is a fantastic opportunity for those passionate about swimming to get involved in the sport. As a Meet Official, you'll play an essential role in ensuring that swim meets are fair and run smoothly. In order to hold officially sanctioned swim meets, TUNA must have a minimum number of officials present. As such, we are always on the lookout for individuals willing to become certified officials. There are several types of officials needed, including:

  • Stroke and Turn Officials - these officials observe swimmers in the water to ensure that their strokes and turns meet legal standards. This position is often the first step in the officiating process.
  • The Starter - this official is responsible for starting each race, ensuring that all swimmers begin at the same time and under the same conditions.
  • The Admin Official - this official works at the results table and oversees meet entries, seeding events, and operating the timing equipment.
  • The Deck Referee - this official oversees the entire meet and the other officials, ensuring that everything runs according to plan.

Becoming a Meet Official is an excellent way to give back to the swimming community and become more involved with the sport. Whether you're a seasoned swimmer or just love watching the races, becoming an official is a rewarding and fulfilling way to support the sport you love.
