Sadly, Midwestern Swimming and friends announce the passing of Lisa J Ellis on December 13, 2023. Lisa had been a fixture with Midwestern Swimming, Omaha Westside High School, and Swim Omaha for more than 40 years. She dedicated her life to being the best swim coach, mentor, and friend that she could possibly be. Her focus was primarily on the foundational swimmers, encouraging them to love the sport for a lifetime. She lent her expertise to Midwestern as All Star and Zone coach for many teams; she served Midwestern as Coach Representative, Age Group Chair, Secretary, and USAS delegate. Her peers and former swimmers have posted heartwarming tributes to Lisa and her dedication to the sport of swimming and to lifelong friendships. Lisa was forced to retire from coaching before she wanted to because of health issues. She fought valiantly through so many adversities for 20 years caused by an unrelenting cancer that invaded her entire body. She never gave up! We send Midwestern’s condolences to Lisa’s family and want them to know how valuable Lisa was to Midwestern and the whole swimming community.
