HOW DO I DEACTIVATE TYDE?
Go to “Forms and Documents” to access the TYDE Deactivation Form. Please allow one to two weeks for changes to be processed.
 
HOW DO I KNOW IF MY SWIMMER IS READY TO JOIN THE TEAM?
Our placement evaluation sessions are designed to find the best fit and group practice level for each individual swimmer based on demonstrated stroke technique and swim skills.
It is our mission to create leaders in and out of the pool with a focus on a positive swim experience for each team member.  For placement benchmarks and skill expectations, please see the Entrance Expectations below.
Swimmers new to TYDE are required to attend a TYDE New Swimmer Placement Session prior to registration.  At TYDE Placement Sessions, each swimmer's skills and abilities in the pool are evaluated for assignment to the TYDE practice group that best fits their demonstrated swimming level including YMCA swim lessons.  This process is designed to place each swimmer in the practice group where they will have a positive experience with competitive swimming.
 
Prep Academy Entrance Expectations:
Prep Academy members are required to demonstrate the ability to confidently swim:
  1. Freestyle with strong arm pull and rotary breathing (breathing to the side)
  2. Backstroke (with body in a horizontal position parallel to the bottom of the pool). 
  3. They are expected to have a teachable understanding of breaststroke and butterfly strokes.
  4. Swimmers must be able to swim, with regular breaks, for the full practice time.  
    (Senior level swimmers should be able to swim 2 lengths = 50 yards without stopping)
Competitive Entrance Expectations:
  • Bronze - Ability to consistently swim all four competitive strokes with proper technique and be able to swim, with regular breaks, for the full practice time.
  • Silver - Ability to swim all four competitive strokes consistently and correctly (legal), and have two (2) age-based  Short Course USAS SCY B times  in two different strokes.
  • Gold - Ability to swim all four competitive strokes consistently and correctly (legal), and have four (4) age-based Short Course USRY cuts.
 
HOW DO NEW SWIMMERS JOIN THE TEAM?
All new swimmers must attend a placement evaluation. Click the “New Swimmer Placement” button on the homepage for more detailed information as well as calendar of placements along with a signup link.
 
During the school year, returning TYDE swimmers may click the “INACTIVE SWIMMER REGISTRATION” on the homepage to return to a group they have been a part of within the last year.
 
 
WHAT PRACTICE GROUPS ARE OFFERED & WHAT TIME ARE PRACTICES?

Some groups/levels are available only at select sites to allow for the best practice experience for members by grouping swimmers based on skill level, age, and experience.

HOW DO I RENEW OR REGISTER MY SWIMMER WITH USA SWIMMING?
All swimmers who are part of TYDE's Competitive groups (Bronze, Silver, Gold) must be registered with USA Swimming to compete at USAS-sanctioned swim meets. USAS-sanctioned meets are open to any swim team whether they are a YMCA program or not. Several meets that TYDE attends throughout the season are "Closed YMCA" meets meaning they are only open to YMCA Swim Teams. Utilize TYDE's Tips and Tricks to assist in the renewal or registration process for USA Swimming.
 
 
HOW DO I SUBMIT A GROUP CHANGE FOR TYDE?
All group and site changes must have prior approval of current and new coach.  Please contact [email protected] with questions about site changes and [email protected] regarding group changes due to moveups.
