The team just wrapped its second invitational meet of the season. With 81 members of the team participating in the meet the Devilfish were well represented. The team had an overall successful weekend with a good number of personal best times and a team record. Team record broken this weekend at the Fall Festival Invitational. Congratulations to Kylie Bangs, Abby Pires and Carly Whitmer. They were awarded Scholastic All-American by USA Swimming. The Scholastic All-America Team is made up of high school student-athletes who have a grade point average of 3.5 or higher and who have achieved the required time standard in a single event.
Congratulation to Stephen Husch. He qualifed for YMCA Short Course Nationals in the 100 Breast with a time of 1:00.80. This is his first YMCA Short Course National Qualifying time.
Westfield Area Y Devilfish Dive into Long Course Season The Westfield Area Y Devilfish Swim Team began the long course (LC) season with a solid showing at the SVY LC CUP Championships at Princeton University, June 10-12. During the LC season, swimmers adjust to swimming a 50 meter or "long course" instead of the traditional 25 yard course. All Fall/Winter Devilfish 9 & over swimmers are eligible (8 & under see below). This is a great opportunity to continue your training throughout the summer and be prepared for the next 2011-2012 Fall/Winter Season. Our Long Course season will begin on June 1st and end July 28th. The team will train the first two weeks of the season at the YMCA in the Wallace Pool. Beginning on June 21st we will move outdoors and train at the Westfield Memorial Pool in the 50 Meter Pool. Spring Clinic is a 6 week program that is technique driven. This clinic is designed to prepare swimmers for competition in their summer club or maintain their skills until the long course season begins. Swimmers will work intensively on backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, and freestyle, as well as starts, turns, and finishes.
