Eligibility
- Ages 6 & up
- Must be able to swim 25 yards of freestyle & backstroke
- Semi-proficient in butterfly and breaststroke
Behavior and Accountability
The athlete understands that they are part of a team and they have respect for their teammates and the coaches.
The athlete listens to the recommendations from the coaching staff and tries to make the appropriate changes.
The athlete behaves in a manner that is safe to themselves and their teammates on the pool deck and in the pool.
The athlete wants to be at practice and is engaged.
Work Ethic and Self Discipline
The athlete will be ready to start practice on time with the appropriate equipment.
The athlete will pick up their own equipment after practice.
The athlete will give the coach their attention while the coach is talking: eyes on the coach, ears out of the water, mouth is closed, hands are on the wall.
The athlete will do their best to swim the entire set as the coach has instructed.
Bronze Group - Skills Checklist to advance to Silver
Pushes off wall in a streamline
- one hand on top of the other
- ears between upper arms
- lower body stretched and long
- toes pointed
Executes a breakout stroke
- Push off by holding the streamline position
- Initiate a kicking action
- Breaks the surface of the water with one arm pull in freestyle and backstroke
Legal Freestyle technique with side breathing to both Left and Right sides for 25 yards.
- Timing of the breath
- One eye stays in the water while breathing
- Uses high elbow catch
Legal Backstroke technique for 25 yards, finishing on back.
- One arm executes the breakout stroke
- Proper timing of arms
- Head position is back
- Toes are at the surface when kicking
Can execute a flip turn
Has a strong understanding of Breaststroke and Butterfly, can complete 25 yards finishing with 2 hand touch
- Stroke may not always be legal
Can execute a race start from the side of the pool
Can complete a 45 minute practice, averaging 1200 yards per practice
Is leading the group during practices.
Knows how to leave when told “on the 60/30/top/bottom”
Know how to leave 5 seconds behind the person in front of them
Can complete 10 x 50 freestyle on 1:30.
