Good Day Tiburones,

Happy Labor Day!! This is the first installment for 2023-2024 Week Ahead. For all our new families this is our primary mode of communicating information to you. In each “Week Ahead” we will cover what’s in store for families as well as giving you advanced notices regarding; team activities, events, practice updates, upcoming swim meets and important dates. We occasionally have a “Wednesday Wisdom” that will go out. WW is most often a swimming specific topics (but not always) that coaches wanted to share with families and athletes. 

I dont know about you but TIBU is feeling 22!! That's correct this marks the start of our 22nd season for us and we are extremely excited to get this party started.

Practices News: 

Practices begin on Tuesday September 5th at Montgomery College-Rockville. Please see the schedule below for week 1 practices. 

Tuesday: 9/5/23

  • 5:00-6:30pm Azul/C+
  • 6:30-7:30pm: Jr. Development
  • 6:30-7:45pm: Verde
  • 7:30-9:00pm Celeste
  • 8:00-9:00pm HSP

Wednesday: 9/6/23

  • 5:00-7:00pm Azul/C+
  • 6:30-8:00pm Celeste
  • 8:00-9:00pm High School Prep (until 9/20)

Thursday: 9/7/23

  • 6:30-7:30pm Jr. Development
  • 6:30-7:45pm Verde

Practices for the following groups will not begin until Quince Orchard Swim & Tennis Club has opened. Sept 23rd is the first practice.

  • Advanced Clinic: Saturday 1:00-2:00pm
  • Stroke Clinic: 2:00-3:00ppm

Facility News:

Minors on Campus: Per our agreement Montgomery College young athletes must be escorted to and from the facility. Young swimmers can access the pool deck from the viewing gallery (MC-R) or be escorted through the locker room. Please note that for the safety of our swimmers we will utilize the buddy system when traveling to the locker rooms once swimmers have been left on deck. Minors on Campus literature

Accessing Facility:

MC-Rockville:  Campus Map, Use Parking lot 3 or Parking Deck 

  • From Lot 3: Follow the walkway to the double doors at the top of the handicap ramp. 
  • From Parking Deck: Turn left, and left again after exiting the parking lot. Take the stairs up to the double doors.

Once inside: 

  • Female Athlete: Take stairs down and walk to the end of that hall. The entrance to the ladies locker room is directly ahead. ( note the women's locker room is a bit of a maze.)
  • Male Athlete: Walk around the down stairs and follow the hallway to the right. The entrance to the men's locker room is across from the vending machine.
  • Parents/Guardians: After escorting your athletes into the facility please exit through the lockerrooms. 

MC-Rockville: Noise in the PE building: We are asking TIBU families to be mindful that classes are in session. The PE building does house some classrooms so please be respectful and keep the volume down while walking the halls. If you notice any loud groups of (college) students in or around the locker room entrances please inform the coaches so that we can make a note of it. 

MC-Germantown:  Campus Map, Use Parking Lot 5

  • From Lot 5: Follow the steps up towards the PE building. Enter building through the main entrance and proceed towards lockerrooms. Access to the pool can only be reached via lockerroom.  

Parking Enforcement at MC Campuses will be returning this season. Once we have been given the passes we will notify all families. In the meantime please be certain to only park in spaces with White Lines, in both the parking lots and parking garage (Yellow Lined spaces are for faculty only and may result in a fine)

Quince Orchard: Is getting ready for the indoor season. Open date will be 9/18. Therefore all practices will be Mon-Fri at either MC-Rockville (MC-R) or MC-Germantown (MC-G) 

Meet News: 

  • RMSC October Kick Off Classic: 10/13-10/15: This meet will be the first meet for this season. 
  • PAC Rockhopper Penguin 10 & Under Meet: 10/29: First mini meet of the season.

  • The Tiburones are looking a few great coaches: This is our first request for interested candidates to coach in our Saturday Stroke clinic. Swimmer-Coaches must be at least 14yo to be considered for a Lead Instructor position (paid) and 12yo for Assistant Instructor. Interested candidates should email: [email protected] 

2022-2023 PVS Scholar Athlete Award - DEADLINE is October 15

Information and Application for the 2022-2023 PVS Scholar Athlete Award. Note that this is different than the USA Swimming Scholastic All American program (see below). Athletes must submit their own applications. Questions should be directed to the PVS Scholar Athlete Coordinator Dave DiNardo.

Zoom Meeting 

We will be holding our Welcome to Swim Zoom meeting on Wednesday September 13th. A zoom invite will be emailed soon.
