Our Goal
The goal of High Point Swim Club is to provide a safe environment where young swimmers can improve their strokes, increase their self-confidence, and learn team work through proper swimming technique and quality coaching in a fun and social atmosphere. We welcome children of all abilities who love being on a team, being in the water, and enjoy a summer activity with lots of kids from the pool. Don’t let the word TEAM intimidate you.
Who May Join
Children 4 years old through senior year of high school may join the team. Any child belonging to High Point Swim Club is welcome as long as they can swim one length across the pool (25 yards) without assistance such as walking or holding onto the lane lines.
First Mates
First Mates is a program for children ages 4 to 8 who don’t feel ready to join swim team. The focus of practice is to improve technique and endurance so that swimmers will be ready to swim a 25-yard race (one length across the pool) at the last home swim meet of the season (in July). Practices are held on weekday mornings, three times per week. See the Practice Schedule for details.
Team Structure
Team members are grouped based on age as of June 1st of the current season.
Swim Team: the age groups are 8 and under, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14, 15-18. Girls and boys practice together but compete separately. Practice times vary based on age group. See the Practice Schedule for details.
Dive Team: The age groups are 10 and under and 11 and up. Girls and boys practice together but compete separately. Practice times vary based on age group. See the Practice Schedule for details.
Practice Times
Regular team practices are held on weekdays, Monday through Friday, early in the day and in the evening. Children may attend the morning OR evening practice time that works with their schedule. There is no requirement for team members to attend practice daily, however, the best way to improve stroke technique and speed is by attending practices regularly. See the Practice Schedule for details.
Committment
Just like any other sport, success is dependent on effort. Consistent attendance at practice is one of the most important factors in a swimmer's development and success in competition. Regular participation helps athletes improve their techniques and build endurance. Some children attend practice daily (on weekdays), some attend when it fits their schedule. You choose how involved your family would like to be.
All team families are required to volunteer for three (3) shifts at home swim meets or three (3) shifts at home dive meets throughout the season. There is no buyout fee. We need all families to volunteer at home meets in order for meets to run smoothly. Swim/Dive team volunteer hours DO count towards the general pool family volunteer requirement.
Team Suit
The team swim suit is not required, but most team members do purchase one. The team suit encourages team spirit and unity and makes it easier for coaches and parents to recognize our swimmers, however, it is perfectly acceptable to wear a swim suit from a past year, a suit that is similar to the team suit, or whatever your child prefers. Details about purchasing the team suit will be sent by email.
Social Activities
The Booster Club plans many fun events including a splash off pizza party, tie dye day, Friday treats, a trip to Noah’s Ark, a pre-All City banner making party and spaghetti dinner, an end of season party, and more!
Parent Volunteers Need for the Booster Club!
We welcome all parents who wish to join the High Point Pool Booster Club! The Booster Club is a group of parent volunteers whose goal is create a positive community among swimmers, divers, coaches, and their families. We support the team members and coaches by coordinating volunteers at home meets and offering team-building social activities throughout the season.
In a typical season, the Booster Club is responsible for selecting/designing the team apparel, and coordinating all social and recognition events: the splash off pizza party, Tie Dye day, Friday treats, Noah’s Ark trip, spaghetti dinner, end of season party, best time and first dive awards, senior awards, coach appreciation, and more!
