Swimming practice group assignments

Following the registration of your swimmer's selected practice group the coaching staff will assess the swimmers age, ability and competition times from previous seasons (if applicable). The staff will reach out if your swimmer's initial assigned practice group needs to be corrected. It is for the benefit of the entire team to make sure each athlete is in the appropriate group. Our practices are created to instruct and advance each athlete within the sport. The description for each practice group is below.

***Please note that the summer and winter programs follow the same philosophy of the practice levels. The main difference is the summer has an 8-lane pool with a separate diving well while our fall and winter program has a 6-lane pool and at times the pool is shared with diving. Therefore, it is not automatic that a swimmer’s summer level will be the same as their winter level. This winter season the coaching staff will do their best to have each child placed in their appropriate group to further the child’s swimming skills. The new structure and adjustments are needed to make sure we are grouping our swimmers to receive the best practice possible based on their current ability.***

If you would like more information about our practice groups or have questions on the correct practice level for your child, please email Coach Kelly ([email protected]).

Swim Practice Group Criteria

Swim Group 3 - Black

The black practice level is designed for experienced swimmers who have the ability and mental maturity to train at high speeds and handle challenging yardage.  Practices are a mix of stroke technique and training.

Swim Group  2 - White

The white practice level is for experienced swimmers who can swim all the strokes legally and need more experience in training.  Practices are a mix of stroke technique and training.

Swim Group 1 - Green

The green practice level is for all enthusiastic swimmers who are able to swim freestyle and or backstroke for one lap of the pool. They must also be ready to listen to a coach. Practices will focuse on instructruction and development of all strokes, starts, and turns using short intervals of 25 and 50 yards.

Diving Criteria

PAC Diving aims to promote enjoyment of the sport of springboard diving while helping athletes to develop skills and build a sense of community among teammates.  Due to limited pool availability for practice sessions, all divers are encouraged to attend as many practices as possible.  Divers are NOT split into practice groups as is the practice with the swimmers.  Rather, they will be assigned a diving board at each practice session based on the skill level of all divers present and in an effort to keep numbers even across both boards.

During the winter season, diving team membership must be limited to those with experience diving with PAC OR those receiving approval from the diving coach.  Unfortunately the limited practice time available reduces the number of athletes that can participate effectively.  Those who are not yet ready for the winter program are encouraged to participate in the summer program.
