Rat Pack & Junior Coaching

The Rudgear Rat Pack and Junior Coaching programs aim to promote leadership, sportsmanship, spirit and introduce coaching skills to swimmers age 13+. It is the perfect way for older swimmers to experience the life of a coach and a great stepping stone to becoming a future coach. The Rudgear Head and Assistant Coaches will lead and Rat Packers and Junior Coaches.

Rat Packers Requirements

  • 13+ years old
  • In the water helper during spring and summer 6U practice
  • In the water helper during 7/8 summer practice
  • In the water helper during Rugrats summer practice
  • Able to follow directions and willing to learn
  • Good RATitude
  • Commit to attending and helping in the water for 6 and unders in the spring and 6U, 7/8s and Rugrats in the summer
  • Exemplify and help promote our BLEED GREEN spirit - ex: cheer during meets, perform at Rudgear Idol, etc.
  • Help shepherds at meets, as needed
  • Help behind the blocks during meets, as needed


Rat Pack Coach Times

  • Spring and Summer 6U practice (April & May - 4:15pm-4:45pm; June & July - 11:25am-12:00pm)
  • Summer 7/8 practice (June & July - 10:45am-11:30am)
  • Summer Rugrats practice (Jun & July - M, T, Th, F 12:00pm-12:30pm)
  • 6U and 7/8 lane helpers at swim meets, as needed
  • Spirit leads at swim meets (face paint, hair spray, cheering behind the blocks, general hype, etc)

Junior Coaches*

  • Rising junior in high school (or older)
  • Coach 6U, 7/8, and Rugrats practices daily
  • Coach behind the blocks during the meets
  • Help plan and attend all team social and spirit events (come to age group-socials, attend beach day, perform in Rudgear Idol, etc.)
  • Help out coaches, as needed
  • Exemplify and help promote our BLEED GREEN spirit.

Application Process

Please keep in mind that this is a selective process. Those interested are required to submit an application and, in some cases, be available for an interview with the coaching staff. It is our goal to take as many qualified applicants as possible.  

Note, Junior Coach positions may be selected and paid depending on the age, experience, and availability of the applicant.

*Please note that we do not have junior coaches every season.
