Coach’s Corner
Aloha Fellow Rats,

As we gear up for Conference, please keep in mind this week is HELL WEEK! We will be working extra hard at practice every single day. Next week we begin our taper with easier practices leading up to the Conference meet. The HOX Last chance meet is coming up - coaches will not be there. If you swim, please keep in mind you are an independent swimmer. We will always be rooting for you! Please remember… no running on the pool deck!! 😎

-Coach Nick Inserra

Shout Out!
A big, huge thank you to Matt Abbott for organizing last night’s Adult Social/Poker Night. The evening was a blast and we raised a lot of money for our team! You are RATical Matt and we appreciate all your hard work.

Heath Reminder
If your swimmer does not feel well, please do not send them to practice or meets. We know it’s disappointing to miss out – especially at the end of the season -  AND we all have to work together to keep our team healthy. No matter what sort of sick your swimmer is, please have them stay home and rest until they are better.

Conference Declarations Due Tomorrow (7/11)
Please commit your swimmer(s) AND select the three events that they would like to swim. This must be done by July 11th. This is a hard deadline based on our timeline to get entries to the Conference Desk.

Each swimmer can participate in up to three individual events. (For 15/18s, 50 free counts as one of the three events.) Our coaches will take the swimmers’ selections into heavy consideration when choosing the events.

In addition, some swimmers will be placed in relays. If your swimmer can only be at Conference Meet for one day, or has to leave early one or both days, please be sure to make a note of their availability in the note area.

Some information that may be helpful as you are selecting events…

All individual events, except for I.M., have a “trials race” and a “finals race (for the swimmers with the top 20 times from trials). The first (and only) I.M. is a timed final.

Conference Jobs
If you have a swimmer swimming in Conference you must sign up for a work a job at Conference (15/18 families included). Job sign-ups will open on July 13th and will close end of day on July 17th. If you do not sign up for a job, your swimmer(s) will not be able to participate in the meet.

Relay Policy Reminder
As we are approaching the end of the season and our big Conference Meet, we wanted to remind everyone about how relay placements work. Relay teams are not created simply by using the swimmers with the fastest recorded times. From our family handbook:

Relay teams are chosen by the coaches. Coaches look at recorded times, participation, starts/finishes, and team needs in order to determine who swims in the relays. Please do not ask the coaches to place your swimmer in a relay, as they work from the above criteria. In our larger age groups, not all swimmers will participate in a relay at every meet.

It's Coach Appreciation Week!
Coach Appreciation Week is here! We have so many amazing coaches and we want to spoil them to show our gRATitude for such an amazing season.

Monday: High-Five Day
Tuesday: Treat our Coaches to Breakfast
Wednesday: Photos and Memories
Thursday: Thank You Cards (and birthday cards for Coach Nick!)
Friday: Punny Treats

Splash & Dash | July 15th
Our annual Splash and Dash is this Friday! One of our favorite Rudgear traditions, Splash and Dash is a fun practice where our swimmers swim a set number of laps and then run a pre-marked course. The winner from each age group gets a pineapple and the runner up gets an orange. It is a super fun day! Make sure your swimmer brings running shoes to practice that day.

We need volunteers to help make the day a success. Check out the Splash & Dash SignUpGenius to grab a job. Please come out and cheer on our running RATS!!!

Splash & Dash Breakfast
Splash and Dash is on Friday, July 15th. And in the great tradition of Splashing and Dashing, we want to offer all of our swimmers a yummy breakfast when they finish. If you can, please kick in toward funding the breakfast – the suggested donation is $5. Please donate today! Thank you in advance for your help and contribution!

Lessons
To sign up for lessons, please see our lessons page to access the sign ups. We have lots of swimmers and limited time for lessons, so please be courteous when signing up and leave space for other swimmers to get lessons, too. One to two times per week is a good rule of thumb. Families may not book back-to-back lessons for the same swimmer.

Make it a great week everyone and GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO RATS!!
