Time Trials
Every child must participate in Time Trials. Time Trials are run like a regular swim meet where each swimmer shows how fast they can swim each of the four competitive swim strokes. These “times” allow the coaches to focus on training and placement of swimmers in the future swim meets. For new members of the swim team, Time Trials is a wonderful opportunity to learn what happens at a meet and to get a better understanding of what competitive swimming is all about. Miniwavers do no need to come to time trials.
“A” Meets
There are two types of meets during the summer season. Saturday morning meets are referred to as “A” meets. A team score is kept which determines league standing. Swimmers can only qualify for the Tri-County Championship Meet at the Saturday “A” Meets (see page 14). “A” Meets typically last 3 hours. Coaches determine which swimmers compete at these meets and what events they swim. This determination is based on times from previous meets, performance at practice and coach’s strategy. Each swimmer may only swim a maximum of 2 individual events and two relays at each meet.
“B” Meets
Wednesday evening meets are “B” meets. These meets are unofficial; no score is kept but ribbons are awarded to participating swimmers. The “B” meets are all about fun and give swimmers an opportunity to swim different events. Only swimmers 14 and under participate in “B” meets.
