Become a Swim Official
Swimming officials also play an important role in making sure swim meets are fair, safe, and fun for all swimmers. By volunteering as an official, you can help support the team and the sport. Officials are also all parent volunteers but do require training unlike timing. However, Coast reimburses for certifications and will help guide you through all the steps necessary.
What Do Officials Do?
Officials make sure races follow the rules and run smoothly. Some roles include:
-
Starter: Signals the start of each race.
-
Referee: Oversees the meet and makes final decisions.
-
Stroke and Turn Judge: Watches swimmers to ensure they use proper technique.
-
Timer: Records race times with stopwatches or electronic timing systems.
