Coast Aquatics Group Descriptions
Novice -
The Novice group is designed for the entry-level swimmer or a swimmer who has little competitive swimming experience. The group's focus is primarily on the development of four competitive strokes as well as skills like racing starts and turns. While there is no attendance requirement, swimmers are encouraged to come to 2-3 practices a week for one hour. Competitions will be primarily local, such as Destin, Fort Walton, Panama City and Pensacola. Ages will range from 6-9, but skill level and experience are looked at more than age.
Age Group –
The Age Group training group is for our younger, experienced Age Group swimmers. While the main focus is still stroke development, there is also an added training facet. Swimmers in Age Group should try to make 3-4 practices a week to offer the best opportunity to continue to progress. Competitions for this group are also primarily local but can include larger Championship meets held in places like Huntsville AL, and Auburn AL. Ages will range from 8-12 but skill level and experience are looked at more than age.
Junior –
The Junior group is where the focus shifts towards aerobic development as well as stroke development. Athletes in the Junior group have proven to have a fairly serious commitment to swimming even if they may be involved in other activities. Swimmers in Junior are expected to come to 4-6 practices a week for the best results which will also set them up to be successful at the next level. Athletes will be introduced to more sophisticated racing skills and techniques. Competition for this group is local and regional, like the ones discussed at the Age Group level. Ages for the Junior group can range from 10-15 based on the swimmer’s background, commitment, and what they hope to achieve in the sport.
Senior –
The Senior group is the most developed and comprehensive group on the team. Athletes are introduced to a rigorous training program that focuses on developing athletes to compete on the Regional, National, and International level. Swimmers in the Senior group are expected to have narrowed their focus and become very committed to their sport. Athletes will be expected to train between 6 and 9 times a week, depending on the time of year. Athletes will be involved in strength training as well as individual goal setting in the Senior Group. Ages in the Senior Group will range from 12-18 but primarily based on swimming background and commitment level.
*All group placements and modifications are based on the judgment of the current group coach and the coach of the other group.*
