Coast Makes Six in a Row at Gravy Bowl
Coast Aquatics maintained its top spot as First Place Visiting Team at the Gravy Bowl this year. This is the sixth year in a row that Coast has held that mark. This year was an all-around performance with Coast getting large contributions from all age groups, both male and female. In all, 27 Coast athletes scored 40 points or more individually. At the top of that stack was Victoria Nechaeva, who went a perfect 8 for 8 in individual first-place swims, picking up a perfect 160 points. She and Sawyer Downs were both recognized as High Point winners in their age groups. Downs picked up 121 points of his own in the Senior Boys division.
The 8-and-under age group proved to be a young but mighty group for Coast. Paul Lazar led the way with 97 points for the 8-and-under boys. On the girls' side, Virginia Batey scored 77 points, and her sister Scarlett added 49. Grace Hamman rounded out the larger scores in the 8-and-under age group, picking up 40 points in just one day.
The 10-and-under age group was led by Rebecca Graffeo and Daniel Lazar. Graffeo amasses 148 points, winning 5 individual events. Daniel won three events and did not have a finish lower than third in any particular event. On the girls’ side, Kennedy Proctor and Adalyn Hendrick posted 50 and 42 points, respectively. Charlie Proctor also had a great weekend, scoring 96 points in the age group. Cooper Jackson and Dusty Lukasiewicz each scored over 60 points.
In the 11-12 age group, Victoria Nechaeva was accompanied by Izzy Lukasiewicz with 63 points and Jael Angelino with 48 points. On the boy’s side, Paul Constantine swam great all weekend, earning 56 points, including four top-eight performances.
Carilyn Allgood led the way for the 13-14 girls, scoring 100 points and making the “A” final in each event she swam. Lily Sailer continued her dramatic improvement, putting up 77 points of her own. On the men’s side, Finn Downs was the lone Coast swimmer over 40 points with his 68, including a top 3 finish in the 100 & 200 breaststrokes.
Last but certainly not least, our Coast seniors were coming off a historic high school season. While Sawyer Downs led the way in points, Tripp Gallemore had the biggest single splash of the meet, winning the 100 back with a 49.13, which qualified him for the Speedo Winter Junior Championship in Indianapolis the first week of December. On the girls’ side, a resurgent Emma Michel had a great weekend, scoring 60 points, while Elisabeth Breck, Katelyn Hamel, and Taelyn Mahieu got on the board, scoring 40 plus themselves. For the Senior boys, Bode McGuirk, Brendan Hamel, Will Pugh, and Jason Perillo all added at least 50 points of their own.
In all, it was another great Gravy Bowl for Coast Aquatics as we continue to strive to be the best team on the Panhandle as well as one of the best in the country.
